9 year old Fiat Stilo Multiwagon 75,000 miles, 5500 per annum. Oil top up, never between annual services.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -

Current car Vx Corsa 1.2 2003 uses and always has used 1 litre every 1000miles - nothing to worry about, would cost more to *try* to "fix" it than it costs in oil to keep it running.
Previous Mitsu Colt 1.3 2000 hardly ever
Previous 2 x Vx Omega 2.0 & Vx Carlton 2.0 (all 2.0 8v engines) about 0.5 litres every 5000 miles
Previous VW Polo 1.3 1987 hardly ever.0 -

Yes, only happened twice in 35 years of driving. The sound of big ends going west still haunts me though,Can I help?0 -
Check regularly I tend to check mine weekly when I frst get a car, then fortnightlly/monthly/before long trips once I know the car and either trust it or dont' trust it with respect to oil use! My 160k miles BMW 328i used a bit, nothing else I've run has ever used a significant amount including a 130k mile 22 year old toyota.
Make sure car is level and parked for at least 10 mins before checking it. BEst to check it in the same place so you know the car is at lease sitting in the smae way each time you check.
MOdern cars should use next to no oil. Up to 1 litre per 2,000 miles is considered acceptable (bear in mind this is a full sumps worth between services though!) but that's really car manufacturers covering themselves agains warranty claims. Audi in particular appear to consider high oil use acceptable, BMW do on their performance variants too for some reason.0 -
They put a handy red light on the dashboard to let you know it needs topping up
