Orange Data Allowances
Options
Hi folks,
Since my partner upgraded to the iPhone 4s she has been having a terrible problem with her data allowance.
She got 1gb and from February she has always been over the 1gb. Now I have had an iPhone 4 with three for 2 years and have never gone over my allowance and I get a reminder when I get to the 800-900mb used mark.
I found a peice of documentation online stating Orange warn the customer when they are nearing their usage threshold. This document may be old as it refers to a 750mb allowance.
Do any of you know if Orange (or any network) should get in touch when allowances are nearing their limit before they start charging extra? Is this part of statutory law or something?
I have found a few bits and pieces online about the iPhone 4s and hidden settings so hopefully that will fix the data usage problem from now on. Just want to know where my partner stand with regard to the charges.
Ideally she would like to escape from Orange and move to a new 3 All-You-Can-Eat package to avoid having these issues again!
Many thanks in advance

If your contract allows 1Gb and you use more thna this then you will be charged. I'm not sure about Iphones but certainly on Android phones you can monitor your own usage. If nothing else you can track usage from your orange account.0

Thanks for the quick replies.
@latecomer. I'm well aware that you should be charged for going over. Part of my issue is that there has been no warning of this from the network.
@both
I know she can track data used on her account online and by texting 150 but it is of my view that she shouldn't have to.
The problem with checking the data counter is that last month there was only a small charge and we didn't notice so didn't reset the counter. It's sitting at about 2.7gb since April . . ish. Can't be sure it's accurate.
If Orange say that they will warn you when approching your data limit in a document, should they not stick to their word?

Did orange send you that document as part of the terms and conditions of your contract? If not then its irrelevant.
Do they warn you if you go over your minutes or texts? So why should data be any different. Its down to you to make sure you dont go over any of your limits.0 -
God knows, yet to source the terms and conditions that came with the iphone.
I would find it impossible to go over 300 mins / unlimited texts . . I would however expect a warning.
Never thought I'd see the day where Three excelled in customer service. . (I get a data limit warning)0 -
If you want a capped contract go with Tesco who are the only provider who actually limit usage on the contracts that are capped. I think someone else is going to do it in the near future.
All other contracts require you to monitor usage, its not something specific to Orange.0 -
I'll be fine withmy contract, just about to take out an 'all you can eat' with three.
My partner on the other hand may have 16-19 months to wait!
Cheers for the replies mate0 -
You should download Onavo Extend on your iPhone. Dont ask me how it saves data but it does. This is the first month I have not exceeded my data allowance.0
