My veg is starting to flourish, what can I do with radishes??

Me and MrZeps started growing our own veg this year, lots of lovely things growing already :j

Just noticed last night that the radishes are going a bit bananas, we have picked some here and there to put into our salads, but I honestly can't keep up with the rate they are growing! Even with the neighbours eating them, there is still loads.

I don't want to let them waste, any suggestions as to what I can do with them?

:)

    Hi zepsgal,

I love them and am eating the excess like sweets at the moment. :o

This thread may give you some ideas:

What can I do with all these radishes!!

I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the suggestions together.

I think I might have posted this already in another radish thread* but you can let some make pods & eat them, nice raw or in stir fries :)

don't let them get too big though or like mangetouts & french beans they'll get stringy

EDIT ... *it seems I did but in my defence it was almost 5 years ago :o

Oh don't start me on rocket! I love it and am shoving handfuls of that into my mouth at the moment...well, when I'm not eating radishes. :D

Keep a keen eye on the rocket because it can become 'shot' quite quickly. This thread has suggestions that may help: Lots of rocket - what to do?

If your rocket and radishes are going daft at the moment, get the next lot of both sown now. :)

What does becoming 'shot' mean? (Did I mention this is our first time growing anything?) :rotfl:

i had a glut of radishes a couple of years ago. the nicest thing i ever did with them was pick them at the baby stage (i'm talking about 1cm - 1.5cm circumference), WITH their leaves still on, and boil them whole for about 10 mins. while they're still hot, put on a plate and add a knob of butter and a bit of salt and pepper. absolutely delicious! :D the leaves are a bit like wilted spinach, and the radishes have hardly any heat but are reeeeally tasty! :D xx

I'm not an exprienced grower either, I've only been growing my own fruit and veg for three or four years, but to me 'shot' means that the plant shoots up, too much stalk and the leaves become smaller and have less taste, then it goes to seed. Shot may not even be a real term...it's just something I call leaves that have gone way past their best.:o

Oh. It might have already done that :(

I should really take pictures tonight of the veg so you all know what I'm talking about.

The radish seems to have grown to a certain level, then over the last few weeks it seems to have taken another growth spurt, there is longer leaves coming out the top. The rocket seems to have done the same, been all one level then boom! another growth of tall thin leaves :(
