Mis sold mislead car hire

The OP stated his/her requirements ("I need a vehicle with lots of room to take 2 adults and 2 children with 4 cases and hand luggage"), so that's what he/she should've got, it wasn't up to him/her to be an expert on American car models.
Having said that, I just Googled Dodge Caliber. If that's a compact then my cars must've been made by Matchbox.
I really wish I had read your post first, it would have saved me having to suffer reading the others. The op came on here with a genuine moan and what did he get? Oh yes, he received a lesson on grammer and punctuation. Very little in the way of help or support. I often wondered if most on here are just miserable sods.
There was a posting on here recently of someone asking for advice about a city he/she was going to and yet several posters suggested that he/she change destination!0 -
Well its just about the same length as my Megane. You will definitely not get 2 adults, 2 children, 4 standard pieces of luggage and hand luggage in my car!
A Megane is not a compact. Even in America I have hired much smaller cars than a Megane. Presumably it's these latter (real compacts) that the OP was offered when he/she arrived. Clearly it wasn't a Dodge Caliber, because they requested an extra $15 per day for one of those.
So whatever way you look at it, if the OP can prove that he/she rented a Doge Caliber then TC don't have a leg to stand on.Je suis Charlie.0 -

Don't think that is what the OP said...
I was offered an upgrade for an extra $15 per day
'an upgrade' not 'an upgrade to a Dodge Caliber...
I do feel for the OP - he didn't get the sort of car he asked for, that much is clear...but since he says he checked online before confirming he was happy with the car, just confused how he would have accepted a smaller car than he wanted...
I was advised that TC via netflights had got me a good deal for a dodge caliber SUV , full insurance , full tank of fuel for £392 for 2weeks , I looked on line and was happy to go with it,
but do think that TC didn't steer him right...but it sounds like he got the class of car that he booked...as Dodge Caliber is classed as a compact...car rentals are almost always 'or similar'...so another compact would = or similar.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
First things first,,, sorry for grammar , I'm posting from my iPhone .
I bought my car hire from my travel agent due to the fact that they had up to this point provided me with very good service ,when the adviser old me she had secured me a good deal with a car suitable for my needs and that it was an SUV i took her word.i took the car back to Alamo after chatting to my rep at the resort( the car was not what I paid for), she told me her hands were tied and I had to sort it out when I returned home.
I stated I needed a car suitable for my family and all my luggage .I feel I was mis sold / mis advised on my car hire , one good thing the rep advised me at my resort was that on page 13 of TC brochure I should have been offered a family size car as a minimum.
I have all and showed all the documentation re-car hire to Alamo and to my rep at my resort, both Alamo and rep stated they don't deal with dodge type cars anymore , TC used to offer dodge when they had contracts with dollar car hire.
Think what I'm trying to say is why was I offered a car not suitable for me and my family and why was I offered a car not even on the books with Alamo , if I had known that when you get to the states you go to the car park and select from cars available I would have never hired in the first place.
It's easy to say I should have checked before I went on my holiday . I never I just trusted the advice given.0 -
Don't think that is what the OP said...
I said there must me some mistake ,, " I've paid for a dodge caliber" TC rep said it must be my mistake
Quite clearly, it was NOT a Dodge Caliber that he/she was offered!
Howsoever, he/she asked for a roomy car - for a family of four plus luggage - and didn't get it.Je suis Charlie.0 -
What did the confirmation paperwork/email say about the class of car you'd hired?
Did it say Dodge Caliber SUV?0 -

Forgive me, I was unclear.
Car hire is almost always XXX model or similar...you are very rarely guaranteed a specific make/model...that is what I meant...think this was touched on in this thread already...so while he may not have been offered a Dodge Caliber - if he booked a Dodge Caliber or similar, then a compact car would have fit the bill...suspect he was offered a compact car, or $15 to upgrade to a larger (non-compact) car...regularly on UK car hire websites they show cars that are not used in the US...with 'or similar'...to give people an idea what to expect, not to specifically say 'you will get this very exact same car'.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
Confused? You got to the resort, albeit a bit of a squeeze. You then presumably unpacked all your luggage at the resort so if you had needed the car during the holiday it would be minus luggage so not much of squeeze? You then gave the car back rather than keeping it and driving it back to the airport? Doesn't make a lot of sense to me or am I missing something?!0

Maybe it's just me but we've been to Florida a few times now, 2 adults and 2 kids, the most luggage we've taken is 2 suitcases plus hand luggage. What could you need to put in 4 suitcases ? Plus hand luggage ?
If i were the OP, i would have paid for the upgrade too and argued the toss once we got back.0 -
Op what class of car did your reservation have on it.
Dodge caliber or similar
or
SUV
or any other group of letters.
Personally I would have booked my car through a UK broker rather than a TA but thats by the by. IMO if you were sold an SUV and for £400 for 2 weeks that does sound right then it looks like you were misled. But as others have pointed out a Caliber isnt an SUV so it really does depend what class of car is on your booking0
