1 year no claim for my 18 year old, "help"

Hi
My son has been insured by Ikube for the last year, they fit a tracking device, so you can't move the car in between 11pm and 5am.
This has not bothered him apart from the fact that he got offered a job delivering pizzas, he had to refuse because of his curfew.
We have just rang to renew his insurance and although he has never claimed etc, it has gone up from £2,600 to £3.700.
He now can't afford to keep the car, my OH has said that he would buy the car off him and insure him as a casual driver but i have just rang OH's insurers and they have quoted me £6000 .
Can anybody tell me where i can go from here, it seems a shame that he has done 12 months and now has to give it all up.
Thanks in advance

He won't have to give it "all" up.
If he takes a break from driving, he can come back with 1 years NCD at any time over the next 2 years (and the premiums do go down with age and experience - measured by the length of time he has held a licence)0 -
We are in the same boat with IKube. Last year my son paid £1800 and his insurance is due up next month, will have 1 years no claims and be 18 then and they have come back with £3500. I have managed to get a quote of £2200 from a company but that is still more than we were expecting but this new quote is higher mileage as he has just got a job and there are no restrictions.
Good luck with finding something.0 -
Hi Alison
Thanks for that, where did you get your £2.200 quote from and how.

With my business, I am a member of the FSB, so I phoned their insurance people who gave me the quote.0

Instead of starting a savings account for the children in case they want to go university, parents need to start an account for new borns to pay for their first few years car insurance!0 -
Thanks for that Alison, and yes i think they should start saving ASAP.0

Delivering pizzas would require business cover anyway, which is rare for youngsters, so it probably wouldn't have been covered under the existing policy.
Have you checked whether the pizza shop has a policy which would cover him?
One of the large pizza chains has a blanket policy which provides third party cover for any driver in any vehicle whilst delivering their pizzas (or returning).
This avoids the company from being prosecuted for using a vehicle without insurance (or causing such), if the driver's own insurance doesn't exist or doesn't cover deliveries (which most won't) and they're in an accident or stopped by police.
Don't go down the road of someone else adding them on to a policy in their own name. This is "fronting", it's illegal, and will all end in tears, as these cases show http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/publications/ombudsman-news/7/july-innocent-non-disclosure.htmWe need the earth for food, water, and shelter.
The earth needs us for nothing.

Husband buying the car and insuring it with the young person as a named driver will scream fronting to them. Maybe thats why the quote was £6000?
Even if the pizza shop had insurance, The tracker on his policy would still show the car moving outside the hours allowed and then billed accordingly.
Same as a parent borrowing the car, The tracker doesnt know who is driving.
Big downside to these policies.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Oh golly gosh, i didn't know that, thank the lord I don't drive, I bet I would be breaking the law without knowing.
Thank you for all your advice,0
