I've used straw/hay to put around my strawberry plants in the past to keep the slugs and snails off presumably they don't like/can't move over it. It seemed to work, didn't stop the woodlice eating them though!

The best stuff is Diatomaceous Earth
It absorbs lipids from the waxy outer layer of insects' exoskeletons, causing them to dehydrate. Arthropods die as a result of the water pressure deficiency, based on Fick's law of diffusion. This also works against gastropods and is commonly employed in gardening to defeat slugs.**** I hereby relieve MSE of all legal responsibility for my post and assume personal responsible for all posts. From the web site linked:
"Keep in mind that it may kill beneficial insects as well."
Actually, there isn't any 'may' about it; it will kill anything that has an exoskeleton, and it could possibly injure worms if it tackles slugs/snails. My chickens get it, but in carefully controlled amounts, due to the cost.0 -
What about using the foliage spray made from infusion of garlic?0
