£40 IS reasonable when you take into account you've 26 months use of a kindle, regardless of whether it was the original one or not.
I have had 26 months use of 2 Kindles that is the point, it was 2 kindles not 1 but 2 both have failed..whos fault is the failure is what i am trying to determin.0 -

An important word in there is sale.
There has only been one sale, 26 months ago.
More recently there has been a replacement item supplied, but no second sale occurred.0 -
In my family we have had 9 kindles. 4 developed a screen freezing fault. 3 within 1 yr warranty, one after 14 months.
Amazon offer to replace that one for £50. I declined and asked them to escalate my complaint suggesting the kindle was not fit for purpose.
They offered a goodwill free replacement. I believe there must be an inherent design fault with kindles. They are sold as a replacement for your library. I expect them to last longer than 1-2 yrs. Should Amazon market them as disposable or limited lifetime devices?
Speaking to friends this seems common. People seem delighted to be given the chance to pay for a cheap replacement out with warranty. I would be furious the kindle failed in the first place.
I love the way they suggest it must have been bumped or dropped! How fragile are they!!!!:mad:0 -
Slightly off topic...
I have a Kindle and when I bought it, it said battery time can be upto 2 months (I know I'd never get anywhere near this in real life) but I'll charge it so green light comes on (ie fully charged) then when I come to use it it's flat again! Full battery without reading anything will only last about 3 days - is this right or do you think mines faulty?
I only bought in Dec so it's under warranty.
Turn the wi-fi off and see if that makes any difference, if not it's a bad battery.0 -

Mine lasts 2 or 3 weeks with the wifi on and it is the cheapest one with the claimed one month battery life, the wife's keyboard one lasts a lot longer than that.
I would be telling amazon and expect them to replace it. In my experience their customer service is pretty good as can be seen from this thread really, offering one at less than half price to replace one a customer has had for over two years seems to be pretty good IMHO0 -

Agreed it should last a lot longer even with the wi-fi on, but it's still good to test as devices like this can eat battery when constantly searching for a wi-fi network.0 -
