This is a secondary school. (I too am involved in a primary school PTA but really notice the difference in having a church aided secondary school with such a wide catchment area to cover. We have a PTA of 4 members at the moment, which is double what it was for the last 3 years lol!!) I have to admit I havent stock bought any bargains for the fair as there arent many in my area, and I have 6 kids so anything I do get tends to go to my family and disappears fast as Im not as brave as most of the Elite so only buy a little lol!
Thank you all for your ideas! Im frantically writing everything down lol! xx
We found that 'summer fairs' etc dont tend to work as well as in the primary school as parents seem to be less likely to support thigs as kids get older.
Our PTA at the secondary school does the following:
Sells refreshments/raffle at other school events (evening talent shows, concerts, school performances etc) which is quite easy to tag onto without being bogged down with planning and needing too many helpers. tea, coffee, cartons of juice, plus cakes donated by parents.
100 club dont know much about it, but its a monthly draw, parents keep their number every month, pay £1 a month on DD, winner drawn, remainder goes to PTA funds (think it needs a lottery licence £40 a year, plus depends on your schools attitude to 'gambling' as its a church school!
Christmas Bazaar This was a new one we tried this year and worked very well. instead of forms running their own stalls etc we invited local crafty/gifty small businesses to hire stalls and we still did refreshments, tombola and raffle. made much more money that if the kids had done their own stalls, and much less organising than if we had organised and manned our own stalls! We promoted it in local paper etc so we were not just relying on parents turning up to buy. You could also sell mulled wine (watered down with cranberry juice!) if you had a alcohol licence, and again if it was acceptable by the school attitude to alcohol.
Tesco is really good for support, larger stores have community champions who have a budget for local charities etc. They donated a Christmas hamper for us last year for the raffle.
Morrisons was also good, as a few of us mums clubbed our spare receipts (and wombled them) for the £25 voucher which we used to buy items for another hamper!
if you have a bookers near to you, get a card for the PTA, it is great for bulk buy swets for prizes etc, although some of the other stuff is cheaper in Mr Ts when on offer!

Looking at the growth figures of Aldi & Lidl you would have thought that they'd open a lot more Metros.
If they have stopped expanding Superstores to Extra, a few were probably too far along in the planning to stop.0 -
