Now I have got off the 'phone I have done it again and your income is too high on the gross figures. I will have another look at it tomorrow because the calcuator is also playing up (it often miscalculates if you use it more than once so I need to double check it).0

I understand where you are coming from on a financial level and i don't know how old you are but please think of you an the children, cut your losses and get out. I was in an abusive relationship but i hid it very well from my family, my mother did know and she only once passed comment on it when I'd left him, never again till the day she died. Being honest i walked away from 250k ended up on benefits. With the support of a friend of mine i went back to college and re trained and set a business up and eventually i bought him out of the house, there was no way he allowed me to have it and the fight just wasn't worth it. Fortunately for me he lives and works abroad now and from what i have been told he treats his new wife no better than he did me. You can start again like i did, if i hadn't left i know i wouldn't be here now due to sinking into depression and being on a high amount of medication. I know your thoughts not to move are for the children but you also need to think about you first, if you don't you can't put them first. As for you going back to him, so did I.0

Thanks for that. I have never had legal aid in the past as I was deemed to earn too much (I wish!). I thought it went on gross earnings which pre-tax is pretty good but due to a stupid tax code which I can't for the life of me understand (40 and no it's not an error my personal allowance is £40 a year before I have to pay tax!), my net wage is £1550 a month, CTC 242.40 a month, Family Allowance £117
Mortgage £871 a month Childcare £460 a month Council Tax £100 a month
Have you recieved your tax code letter from the Inland Revenue?
If your at all in doubt call them ASAP, everyone gets the basic allowance of around £5k. Make sure your not on emergency tax etc, your personnel office should be able to confirm things too.0 -
You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.

I'd bite the bullet and get in touch with the soliciter - if nothing else you need to let them know that you thought the bill had been paid... I'm sure they'll be able to come to some agreement where you can pay them in installments etc. If nothing else then go and see the CAB and get help with your debts - take everything you've got so that you can get thngs sorted. Unpaid bills need dealing with not hiding away cos they're too scary.
There are various domestic violence websites and organisations who will give you emotional support but who can also help you get legal advice. Please use them and get in there ahead of him if you keep putting it off then you'll be in a weaker position.
Good luck.0 -
I don't have any legal advice but did used to work in the legal field & believe me unpaid bills in this field are more common than paid ones! I too think you should phone your solicitor & explain what has happened. There is a 99% chance they will be sympathetic, especially if you hed a good long term relationship with them prior to this. Also, assuming it is a family law solicitor, this won't be the first (or last!) time this has happened & they may even have a procedure in place to help you out etc. Please give them a call, you need legal support & it sounds like they will be best placed to give you the help you need.

Yes and I have contacted them, they say it's correct. I was promoted in December 2005 and a condition of the job was I had to have a lease car, as when I was doing the job in a temporary capacity I was getting 51p a mile which was adding another £300 a month to my wages. Due to cutbacks I had to have a lease car. So I checked the various websites to find the cheapest suitable car taxwise and thats what I picked (said it would cost £800 a year extra in tax, but as I have to pay for personal use this would be much less). However the tax letter (which I will find for later to ask for advice on another thread says I should have paid 2500 odd a year extra in tax), so basically I am in arrears for 1 year which is why my personal allowance is now £40!I love this board, have "virtually" met so many lovely people, people I am honoured to count as friends.
