I have had no sleep at all from worry so thought maybe someone on here could help.
Im so worried about what will happen to our family next, we get conflicting advice from people at the job centre and we cannot get through to CAB.
Ok in a nutshell:
1. My husband lost his job in March and is trying to find a job with no luck.
He is currently on JSA contribution based
2. We have two children aged 5 and 8 months
3. Im self employed. I have just finished my maternity leave so am taking time to get set up again and get restablished and currently earn nothing.
So right now we get council tax jsa, child tax, working tax and child benefit. Sounds a lot but not enough to cover our mortgage
Our really worry comes from paying our mortgage. According to a Advisor, Apparently help in the form of smi should kick in this month but we need to call this fridy to switch onto jsa income based?
But now we think we wont get this mortgage help because I get wtc...even though I earn nothing right now?
.The only way to get mortgage help is to give up my work so we no longer get wtc?
Im terrified we are about to lose our home. I dont know what to do or what will happen
Is it either smi or wtc but not both?

Have you thought about getting a paying job as well as being self employed? The wage will then go towards your mortgage.Be happy, it's the greatest wealth0 -
There is very few inhouse jobs for my profession, it is freelance based. Hopefully I will be turnover some money in August when I do my offical relaunch.
But our immediate worry is right now. Even if a job Was offered to either of us tommorrow it could still take 2-3 months to get paid.
If we are going to lose our home might as well get it on the market tommorrow to minimise the damage...0 -
Have you thought about a Mortgage Holiday? Have you talked to the mortgage company? When I first became ill we did this for 6 months as we had been paying our mortgage for 10 years and has a good history of paying. That would be my first port of call.I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
We spoke to them back in March and they were so unhelpful. Something about because of new "affordabilty" they cannot lower payments or put us on a holiday payment, or even onto interest only as its not in our original contract.
They even lost our smi paperwork twice . They are useless.0 -

Have you tried putting your info into turn2us benefits calculator to check your entitlements both with and without the working tax credit?0 -

It sounds like your loan to value is high and the risk is too big for them to take. Holiday breaks add to the debt and banks have been burnt by those who took on too much debt.
Don't forget that SMI is limited to 2 years.
Perhaps you could both look for work doing anything until a job comes along that is your normal profession?RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.
Read the sticky on the House Buying, Renting & Selling board.0 -
I have used the calculator but the problem is it does not seem to account for the smi at all.0

I dont think thats the case that we are high risk, we have paid off over 2/3 off.0

Does your CAB offer telephone advice or could you drop in to see them to make an appointment? is there a Welfare Benefits department at your local authority as they sometimes have someone who can check your benefits over the phone?
SMI is only paid for income based JSA and for a maximum of 2 years. Have a look at

Your mortgage lender under a code of conduct should offer you some help. Help is also available under various mortgage rescue schemes either as sell and rent back (via Local Authority only - don't go to the ones advertised in the paper and on telly) and there is also Repossession Prevention Funds which are also available via CAB in conjunction with your local authority. The Cabbage

You do not have to get a job in your profession, in difficult times take whatever will pay the bills, sit behind the till at Asda if it means keeping your house. It won't take 2-3 months to get your first wage packet. It's someone else's fault.0
