My grocery budget is £190 a month including nappies, dog food, putting a bit aside for the 5 week months & also £12 of tesco saving stamps every month for Xmas. When all is said & done I have just over £30 per week to spend on food & toilteries, excluding the above. I buy meat at a local organic butchers & organic fruit & veg in Tesco, organic pasta & rice in sainsburys, I make my own bread, we pretty much have tesco own brand everything else, a mix of organic & inorganic items. I buy value toiletries & mostly cook from scratch. This is for 2 adults & a 19 month old.
It does take a bit of meal planning & mental arithmatic & work, I would spend a little bit more if I could afford to, ideally I'd have around £40 per week for us to eat really well.
That said, I think if you can easily afford £300 per month & are happy to be spending this much on brand names, whats the problem? It's only if you can't afford it that it is an issue IMHO!
