Insurance claim - named driver's licence revoked

I've just had a conference call with Elephant and the DVLA and been told my driving licence was revoked back in 2006 (this is the first I'm aware of this).

The claim is for the theft of my ex's car from outside her house - I was a named driver on the policy though I haven't driven the car for nearly a year.

Will this affect the claim, or her policy? I hope not :/

As cheapo insurance companies spend a lot of time hanging on to their money, you ex has a problem. A material, important fact has come to light (false proposal) that you as a named driver don't have a licence and as they don't revoke them on a whim, they will dig deeper.
If I were you and she is your ex, I'd be far more worried about DVLA revoking my licence.

    Why was your licence revoked?
"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"
  • It was revoked because I didn't send them my paper licence to be endorsed with 3 points from a speed camera. I left the country for a year may explain why I missed the notification.

DVLA say just to send them a D1 and I'll be able to drive again before the end of the week. It seems such a minor thing, to invalidate her policy over , surely it's just an oversight, minor thing and nothing to do with her current claim?!

Don't worry, they will pay (and in the unlikely event they don't then the FOS will make them).

The standard licence wording tends to be ".....holds or has held and is not disqualified from holding....." so even if you had been driving then they would still pay.

Let's face it, you haven't missed any notification have you? I mean you must have paid the ticket or court fine. Or is there a warrant out for you too?
  • I do remember the fine, I think they took me to court in my absence, and I ended up paying via an attachment of earnings when I returned to the UK. I just assumed I'd have the 3 points (maybe 4?) and they'd drop off, today's the first I'm aware that my licence has been revoked.

And thanks vaio, that is what I want to hear, but I guess we'll have to wait to see what Elephant come back with in the first instance.

So what did you think would happen when you didn't send it in for points?
  • I guess I assumed that they'd put the points on on their computer.

You may find that you (or your ex) will be chased by any insurance companies who should have been told about the revoked licence to get extra premiums from you.

If you didn't disclose the points as well as the revoked licence they may take a dimmer view!
