Epson Printer

I have received an Epson printer this morning from an Amazon market place seller. The box does not contain Epson printer cartridges it looks as if they have been removed from the box and replaced with cheaper generic ones.

How do I proceed from here? If I do end up having to send this back who pays for postage for the return?

Very disappointed at this.:(
Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p

Is the printer described as including ink cartridges or genuine ink cartridges? The reason I ask is because not all printers actually include ink cartridges (this is how the manufacturers make real money on cheap printers) so they may well argue the cartridges are included as 'extras'.

If the item has been mis-described then the seller should pay return postage. Although getting sellers do to this is a whole different challenge.

    Just a thought..

When I have bought printers in the past, the supplied cartridges don't look like original equipment ones, in as much as:

    When you buy the replacements in the shop they come in fancy branded plastic packaging with a cardboard back;

When you get them with the printer, they're just sealed inside some cellophane/foil and look like "no brand" ones.

If what I describe sounds anything like what you have there: have you opened the packaging to see what make is written on the actual cartridges?

Epson inks with printers tend to come in a clear plastic shrink wrap thing
Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.

You can tell pretty quickly when you install the printer drivers - if they're generics the driver will 'warn' you every single time you go to print.

FWIW if they did swap them for generics, they may have done you a favour - the ones that come with the printers are samples/get you going cartridges that last about as long as it takes to prime the pipes and print head, and print a few test prints!
  • The printer is an Epson SX535WD and the ink cartridges supplied in the box are plain to see that they are generic ones.

The URL for the printer is here http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B005H36P36/ref=ox_ya_os_product

I emailed the seller to question this and they have replied to me stating that on the listing, the printer will come with generic ink and not original which i cannot find.

I feel bitterly disappointed in this and feel like this is shady trading to be fair.

No, I can find no mention of generic inks on that webpage either.

    Though I did read...
    Box Contains

    Motherboard
    Manual
    Backplate
    2 x SATA 3Gb/s cables
    4 x SATA 6Gb/s cables
    1 x SLI bridge
    1 x Q-connector (2 in 1)
1 x ASUS Front Panel USB 3.0 Box
which does seem rather strange for a printer. :D
(click on See all Product Description to see the above).

Perhaps you need start getting tough with them.

Oh, and take a copy of that webpage before it changes.

If you expand the Technical Details it states that the Ink Technology is Epson DURABrite™ Ultra, which would be a bit difficult to achieve with generic cartridges.

  • I'd raise an A-Z claim or give Amazon CS a call - they are really helpful.
    Thinking critically since 1996....
  • What is an A - Z claim?

I'm worried about losing money now in shipping it back. I certainly wouldn't recommend anyone to buy from this company from the tone of the replies we have received, they are not helpful at all.

He's referring to a claim under the Amazon A-z Safe Buying Guarantee, which is there to protect you against naughty Marketplace sellers:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=3149571

Do NOT send the item back at your own cost. If they want it back, they can arrange to get it back.

Try the Amazon claim, it's the easiest course of action. If it's not successful, you still have your rights under the Sale of Goods Act to fall back on.
