The Derbyshire BS, has this policy of making an appointment to open an account, marketing ploy so their advisor can try and flog you insurance etc.

LOL, indeed. I'm sure that's the reason with Nationwide too, but they didn't actually go through anything else with us - just made us sit in a room with them to open the account.

Nationwide didn't make any attempt to sell my wife anything either during her appointment to open a current a/c recently.0

When do voting papers have to be returned by?
My DH and I have not received anything, but I am pretty sure that one day last week our post was put through the letterbox of the empty house next door, as we had the post for the other side, and I know that they had the post for the house beyond theirs.
Update
The papers were next door ( at the postman), but fortunately the person responsible for the house visited yesterday evening and redelivered a lot of post.0 -
10th consecutive year of record profits for Portman; 3rd biggest society doing very nicely thank you! No need to merge with bigger organisation.....the key therefore has to be the retirement of both Nationwide's & Portman's CEO (although interestingly Robert Sharpe of Portman is now being made redundant). Perhaps the remaining Portman Directors don't have the b*lls to carry on the aggressive course Sharpe has taken over the past few years....much easier to throw your lot in with Nationwide AND earn more money eh? VOTE NO!0

absolutely correct when CEOS are due to retire they do whats best for themselves and their board of directors sounds as if hes "laughing all the way to the bank"

Write to the Portman explaining the situation and requesting the Staffs/Prtman merger bonus be reissued.God save the King!
I'll save Winston Churchill, Jane Austen, J. M. W. Turner and Alan Turing.0
