in my experience with Easyjet, unless your case looks substantially bigger in dimensions than their measurements (2cm is not going to be noticeable) you'll be fine.

From personal experience with EasyJet I would say you are 'safe' on the extra 2cm. I've only ever witnessed staff getting people to drop their bags into the cradle/gauge when the bag does look quite 'stuffed' and to be honest doesn't look like it'll stand a chance of fitting the cradle.

If you are flying a peak hand luggage only flight, ie Friday or Sunday, there isn't enough space on board for the bags so they are more likely to be checking.

The last time I flew with easyJet from Manchester, they made everyone checking in put their hand luggage in the gauge and then reminded you that everything had to be put into the one piece of luggage you had to carry aboard. At the boarding gate they were also checking again but the lady there was the same one who checked me in and she remembered me and so she did not bother to ask me to have it measured again. (Mine was the correct measurements by the way, bought specifically for the job) Can't say whether this was an unusual occurrence or not but to be honest, how would you feel if you got to the airport all ready to fly and you suddenly had to not only pay all that extra to have the bag put into the hold but also wouldn't know whether all your valuables were safe or not?
    Just my opinion.

Although I'm sure that happens lewroll, I do think its an unusual occurrence. We check in online and so only see Easyjet staff at the boarding gate (which has usually only been displayed about 30 minutes before flight departure). There just isn't time on those flights to check everyone's baggage in the guage.

Mine is a couple of cm taller than it should be.. Admittedly it's short on the width so doesn't give the impression of trying to push my luck with a big case but I have flown with it twice on easyjet this year and on both occasions they were happy that it fit into the cabin bag stand..

I have also now left the orange "Easyjet checked for hand luggage" label round the handle that they put on when we checked in coming back from Iceland.. concentrates the mind of the person looking at it when I next fly with them.. ;)

As far as I remember, easyJet's luggage cases are such that you need to fit your bag sideways, which may well be a problem if your bag is too tall. I've been asked to fit my bag in the cage plenty of times and wouldn't call it an unusual occurance so I wouldn't personally risk it.

I have flown with Easyjet lots of times and have never been asked to put my case in the crate, untill this last time going to Alicante.
The woman said the flight was full and everyone was taking hand luggage only so there wasnt enough room in the overhead storage lockers. As mine did fit into the crate, she then asked me to check it in for free (which I did as I had to wait for a transfer), but if it hadnt fit I would of had to pay to check it in.
The main problem is if the flight is full and they need bags to go in the hold, they would rather make someone pay (who has an over size bag) than start messing around at take off time, trying to put bags that wont fit in the over head compartments.

Why take the chance, given the ridiculous charge they make if they catch you out? I have different sized bags for different airlines, they're only £10-£15 on the local market.
