My assumption was based on the advice you gave - you sounded like a Curry's salesman. You still haven't mentioned which model of TVs you have, so if you're comparing a 1 yr old LED to a 5 yr old LCD and a 10 yr old plasma, theyn you're not comparing like for like!

Thanks for the insult (how dare you, i would never stoop so low as to work in retail :)

My LED is 6 months old. At the time, I viewed various Plasma, LCD and LED (all the latest models) there was no competition.

Its odd really as the general consensus is that an 'LED' is always better quality than LCD.

    My point - it's NOT.

    I have a current spec - deep breath - LG HD LCD LED-backlit 3D 43" telly.

    Pleased with it.

A 3D channel comes included with full-fat Sky, and I enjoy the occasional programme.

But the big upgrade for me is the bigger size and HD - it slaughters my old 28" LCD, complete with its Ceefax scorch marks.

Are you still harping on? I love the fact you are telling me that my own opinion is wrong :rotfl:

As with any post on this forum, my posts are my opinion and, as I said, the picture quality on the LED TV i got was the best quality in the shop. (hence why I bought it)

Some people like samsung's over saturated colours, some like the grey blacks of LED. The "general consensus" of the man on the street is because samsung are good at marketing, making people think LED was new in 2010, when sony was doing it in 2005 and because they make nice, slim sets.

It's like asking a bunch of 12 year old girls who the best musicians of all time are. They'll say One Direction or Bieber, but that doesn't make it so.

Do the best plasmas on the market have a faster pixel cool-down than LED? Yes.

Do they have a much wider dynamic contrast range? Yes.

Do they use more electricity? Yes.

Do they make greens look like youve replaced every blade of grass with a radioactive lime? No.

LED sets certainly stand out more because of their brightness, but I've never seen real life look like samsung thinks it does.

That doesn't look like your own personal opinion to me.
I fully understand that your LED backlit LCD TV is better than your 'old style' LCD and your Plasma. That's not always the case, my point is to not generalise by saying what you said above 'LED is better than LCD' - a £200 Bush LED TV is certainly NOT better than a £400 Sony, as a big general example. MY opinion is that plasma is better BTW.
  • Until each and every member of the human race has precisely the same eyesight, and uniform preferences there can never, and will never, be agreement.

These days there are only two TV 's in the world (1) good branded and (2) cheap[er] others. These days a major brand [any brand] is going to be a very very good TV. All TV's in this group are thinner, brighter and a much better performer than they were just a few [pre-HDTV] years ago and better than their cheaper alternatives.

There's very little between them in terms of lifespan burn-in and longevity but continuing differences in price / light output / black levels / contrast ratio / energy consumption and price.

In retail TV terms LCD's are made by everyone and anyone range from 2" to 80". Plasma's made by Panasonic, Samsung, and LG range from 40" to about 60". Why only 3 makers ?, years ago when alienRIK, myself and others techies in this group were debating the issue manufacturers were on the cusp of technology and caught between CRT's and flat panel. So mi££ions and mi££ions needed to be invested in new factories, hmmmmmm what should I do ? which direction should I invest in ? Should I go with big panel [can't go below 40"] plasma manufacture .. .. .. or should I invest in LCD that makes everything from mobile phone screens to 80" HDTV ? Fast forward a couple of years and as stated in #6 little has changed other than very few companies will invest in a new plasma technology because a factory making LCD can make a megga range of products whereas plasma's are used for big TV's only.

Until each and every member of the human race has precisely the same eyesight, and uniform preferences there can never, and will never, be agreement, and that is never going to happen. My advice would now as then be the same, decide on an area of price then let your eyes decide not other peoples opinions, there is almost nothing between them these days at a given price point so make your decision based on what your own eyes tell you.

Here are some average truths for you, not phanbhoy or techie views just facts ~ Light output / LED TVs win plasma loses - Black level plasma wins / LCD loses - Contrast ratio Plasma wins / LCD loses - Viewing angle plasma wins and both the LCD and LED loses - Energy consumption LED's win and plasma loses - Price CCFL's win with plasma in second place and LED loses, you decide with your own eyes and ears, don't let others including me sway your choice away from that which your own eyes tell you is the right choice for you and your family.

I think you want to take this up with Samsung as you have obviously have some kind of issue against them the amount of times you plugged their name, incidentally I never even mentioned any brand names as it is pointless on this forum knowing the mentality of the 'experts' on here. Needless to say my TV is not Samsung. Having said that, plugging Sony is an odd one. Overly priced for everything (always have been) and with no extra benefits.

Without wasting my time any longer, read my post above (maybe a couple above) as what youre saying doesnt make any sense.

Makes perfect sense to me. Doesn't take long to read your posts, and that's the problem - it takes more than a quick sentence 'LEDs are BETTER!' to explain the differences between the TVs, and you don't want to take the time to do that. That's OK, but you'd be better not posting at all with poor advice.

I mentioned samsung because they're the most popular LED manufacturer, and with most consumers are synonymous with LED. Also because they epitomise everything that's wrong with LEDs.

I mentioned sony to highlight that marketing often trumps reality in the eyes of consumers, but that doesn't make it "right."

And I agree, sony's sets are overpriced, and for the past couple of years have been awful. Have you seen the motion performance on their 2012 sets?

Panasonic all the way, even with their LEDs.
