If your vision in the weaker eye drops below 6/18 (approx 35%) you will not benefit from 3D television0

Sorry but. LCD TVs are LED, the LEDs are used as a backlight in place of a fluorescent source.
HD is about screen resolution.
Yes and a backlit TV has a better, much clearer overall picture. You cannot compare a standard LCD to a LED (they are the same thing but still 2 diffrent types of TV)0 -
johnnyboy - you need to stop evesdropping on conversations in Currys. LCD and LED TVs are both 'backlit'. LED with a sort of fluorescent bulb, LED with lots of LEDs. A decent LCD will beat a cheapo LED any day, don't fall for the marketing guff that you're helping to spread.
Plasma's better anyway ;-)0 -
Yeah, those cheap LED sets with rubbish LCD panels that get clouded by an overly bright LED array look so much better than a well made LCD set.
If you want detailed contrast and lifelike colour rather than over-saturated floodlights, get a panny plasma.
No, it's not as fashionable as LED sets, but when it comes to actually handling varied contrast, they still cannot be beaten until a top-class OLED tv comes out.0 -
3D TVs are simply able to show you 3D content.
When you feed a 3D TV with normal 2D TV you have the choice of viewing it 2D or alternatively have the TV try and make it 3D. Very few of those that I know with a 3D TV use this function with any level of frequency.
All the upper end TVs come with it these days. I certainly wouldnt pay a premium to ge a TV that has 3D capability but at the same time I am not going to refuse to buy one because it has it either as if you dont like the feature you simply dont use it.
I agree it does at the moment still feel like a fad and will never amount to anything but have to admit that watching content occasionally in the 3D, particularly blu-rays, it is very good. No way would I want to watch most let alone all TV in it though.0 -

Thanks for your intelligent input johnny. Have you worked out the difference between LED/OLED/LCD yet? Have a read at what you posted. The only thing I agree with is that 3D is a fad!0

It was a valid post aimed at your bizarre patronizing assumption that I don't have a clue what I am talking about and basing your points on the fact I 'eavesdropped' in a store. I have an LED TV, had an LCD and had a Plasma. All latest spec (at the time of course)
There is no competition, the LED picture quality is the best I have ever seen.0 -
My assumption was based on the advice you gave - you sounded like a Curry's salesman. You still haven't mentioned which model of TVs you have, so if you're comparing a 1 yr old LED to a 5 yr old LCD and a 10 yr old plasma, theyn you're not comparing like for like!0

I've got a 3d tv by default (the replacement model didn't have the option to not have it) it's an option you have to switch on if you want to use it. I've had it since November and watched one programme in 3d, very nice it was but not something I'd do regularly.
1. glasses need charging up
2. upscaling is rubbish
3. they give me a headache if used for any length of time
4. I'm squeamish about anything electronic being near my brain for long
5. there's almost nothing broadcast in 3d other than from paid channels.
HD's great though.0
