Cancellation of wheelchair assistance on Jet2

Has anyone else cancelled wheelchair assistance on a Jet2 flight and been charged £70 for the privilege?
We had booked wheelchair assistance for my mother, but had to cancel the flight because she was ill, and transferred her ticket to a friend. We paid £70 for the name change - and £70 for cancelling the wheelchair assistance. I found an email for Jet2 on the web, and emailed to complain but - surprise, surprise - no reply. Any suggestions?

That doesn't seem right? I'm sure they don't charge for wheelchair assistance, if fact I don't believe any airline would be allowed to as it would be discrimatory to passengers with a disability. Are you sure you are not referring to the cost paid for reserving/allocating seating for your party on the flight?0

Complain to the airport, under EU law it is their responsibility to supply assistance to reduced mobility passengers.
Are you sure it was not £70 for the name change and £70 for the fare difference from your original fare to the one that would have been on the day you changed the booking.0 -
Good suggestion Aerostar.
I would be very very surprised if it was a charge for wheelchair assistance.0 -
Hi I tried to book a Jet2 flight online today and ticked the "wheelchair assistance"box on the page. This brought up a message that they could not deal with this on-line and I should call a help line . We called and booked and the price was £32.02 dearer than the online booking price.Does anyone know if they are allowed to discriminate against disabled people in this way?0

It's either an error on their part or there's a fee that you're missing when comparing the prices. From their website:
"Please be advised that you will not be charged any additional fees for booking your flight and assistance through our call centre."0 -
Thanks for the quick reply,I phoned Jet2 special assistance line and was told that as I'd booked it through the call centre it would cost 4x£6 extra. When I got a little bit upset she asked a supervisor and was able to tell me that the extra £32 would be refunded within 5 days. I did quote from your reply/their conditions, about not charging people requiring assistance any extra but if I hadn't queried it I would have been out of pocket, how many other people has this happened to? Thanks again for your advice.0
