Well today I saw a quote to hang a FD in a bank at £678 plus vat and they quite happily pay this rate. All my contracts are now in commercial premisis.

I've been in buisness for over 30 years and employ 19 people, the people who are charging £20 for an internal door are nothing short of cowboys.

Just to break down the £450 price for a FD

Door £90 more if it has a V/P
    OHDC £50
    Ironmongery £50
    I/S £10
    Paint £20
Disposal of waste £20 per door

1 Carpenter 4 hours at £30 per hour, I pay him £14 per hour
1 Labourer 2 hours at £22 per hour
1 Painter 2 hours at £30 per hour

All the above are supplied with company van/mobile/uniform etc and are PAYE.

So basically your carpenter is getting paid £56 to hang a fire door :D the labourer does not need to be there..
I have just hung a internal door today (not a fire door) that weighed 26kg, if i had said i needed a hand i would of been laughed at...

How would they cope with hanging a 56mm thick solid Oak door?, team of 6 men and a fork-lift. Still I suppose they have to be able to justify the cost and especially Toms wage......

your rates are completely laughable in a domestic enviroment, this is the reason you work in commercial only, you would have ZERO work in domestic houses, £30 for a chippy & £22 for a labourer those rates are crazy, i have never ever seen a painter charge £30 p/h my brother in law is a self employed painter/decorator & he is lucky to get £15.

talking about cowboys i hope your company isn't called the magnificent seven cause it would sure fit, this forum is all about people getting good value for money which they won't get if they employ you.
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.
