A full conclusion was reached today, after various heated conversations with the manager of the DFS store and eventually asking to speak to his boss I contacted Citizens Advice and I was awaiting an email from them after they'd proof read my letter with intent to cancel, that arrived today.
The letter had more information than I'd intended and stated Section 57 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974, if finance was discussed with the trader, but hadn't yet been executed then I would be able to withdraw under that piece of legislation and receive a full return of any deposit I had placed (fortunately I didn't part with any deposit).
I contacted the store ready to recite this before finally printing off and sending the letter I had constructed and the manager was surprisingly pleasant and said the order had 'been cancelled' I thanked him, hung up, contacted Citizens Advice and asked for their final opinion, they said I should request a letter confirming the order was intact cancelled. I once again contacted the store, spoke directly to the manager and asked for him to send that to me which he has said he would email this evening.
I hope this thread can be of some use to anyone in this position, I gathered my information before acting from all over the place and a lot of it conflicted but I reached the conclusion I was after
