You can get one of those pens to check the notes I guess.
I've sold for cash on colletion & never felt the need to check the notes.
Are you selling something that's likely to attract scammers?0 -
If you are that concerned then meet them at your bank & get them to pay it into your account.0

You can never be sure of anything, fake notes aren't that hard to spot they're usually printed on inferior paper so you can feel the difference rather than anything else.
If you're wary of doing the deal don't do it, sell item elsewhere where you can receive an electronic payment and pay someone for the privilege of handling your cash. Of course that carries its own risk, so consider that too and maybe not go out;).0 -
hi
thanks for replies
just had a woman offer to buy via paypal
so she is giving me the cash not me giving her
is that ok?
i woulndt send the goods until im sure of money

she has sent her paypal address?0 -
Simply, you need to give her your PayPal address used with the account, she logs into her Paypal and transfers money to you via the site....0

this sounds like the famous.
"string along" Scam
they make you feel the item is sold, then one sob story after another and they transfer money in to paypal using a international money transfer order, get the goods and cancel the transaction which can be done up to 6 weeks on some payments.
Vanish and your goods are gone.
If you are selling on Gumtree only one system is safe:
Cash face to face on sale.
Any thing else and you are asking to be ripped off and you will be.
On notes, take out a banknote, they have a system for the blind to check, run your fingers across the bank of England header, it is raised up, nobody can fake that.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I have never used Gumtree but wondering how that is the only safest way to sell items? Surely sending the buyer an invoice through Paypal and sending the item by courier is safe too?A home without a dog is like a flower without petals.0 -
Only ever deal in cash when selling something on Gumtree, or any other form of small ads transactions.
Paypal is too risky, once you have received payment an unscrupulous buyer can then tell paypal they didn't authorise the transaction and get their money back and you are minus the goods and the cash and there is nothing you can do about it.
Gumtree has an advice section which will keep you safe if you take heed.

Paypal is very unsafe for gumtree, cash is really the only safe option.Thinking critically since 1996....0

Meet them at your bank and get them to pay cash into your account over the counter.0
