A mileage mystery! Any theories?
Hi all.
Just bought a 60 plate Vauxhall from a dealership (Network Q) with 13k on the clock. The only previous registered keeper was the dealership itself - they said it was the parts manager's company car.
Now here's the odd bit: I've just examined the service book and it was serviced in July 2011 but the mileage was recorded as 13k, only about 100 miles less than when I collected it the other day.
So I'm puzzled as to why it's only covered 100 miles in the past 11 months. I'm surprised they'd just let it sit there for so long when it's rapidly depreciating in value.
Any theories (sinister or otherwise)?? Thanks.

It is possible.
Or else they've used it as a garage hack and then "corrected" the milage back using a diagnositcs tool.
Do you really want to know?0 -
It's just curiosity really, I've no reason to think there's anything dodgy about the car. I was just wondering if it's usual for a car to sit unsold on a main dealer's forecourt for that long.0

Do you think the date is perhaps a year out in the "service" book. Just ask.0

All the cars I have ever owned have questionable history. But I've never spent as much.
Why not just go back and ask if it's a reputable dealer? I think it's viable. When I worked at Rover we had cars that didn't move off a space for seasons....0 -
I would be thinking that the service record is fake, done recently, to make it look like a looked after car. Chances are the idiot just wrote an estimated mileage and thought nothing of it.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0

Probably sold on some super discounted scheme from Vauxhall to the dealer, with a condition they keep it for a set period before reselling, then the manager changes each year and just parks up the old one for the rest of the period.0

I sold my old Micra once with 105K miles on the clock to someone who bought it for his "mother in law" who was with him at the time and signed the V5.
Two years later the said Micra turned up at a low key back street car trader with the same mileage give or take a couple of miles. Still taxed and MOT'd. Very strange indeed.0 -
Is there any MOT history?0
