Bad Business On eBay

Hi everyone,
A couple of weeks ago I used the 'Buy it now' option to buy a large car part (It was a boot lid). I paid the £59.95 + £15.00 postage and specified that it to be posted to my place of work.
A couple of days later it arrived and my workmate signed for it. I took it home and went to fit it that night. When I got it out of the box I found that even though it was well packaged in bubble wrap, it was covered in scratches and dents. A couple of the dents even had rust in meaning that they were quite old.
I emailed the seller (a salvage yard business) explaining that while I understood that the item was classed as "used", it was in such bad condition that it was in no way fit for purpose. It was in worse condition than the one that I intended to replace it with. I asked them to arrange for collection of it as I felt that they knew full well that it was in such a condition. This was the reply I got...
"Please call 0********* or as per t&cs please check on arrival if this was not done please return if item not required"
I'm unable to call them during the day at the moment due to the nature of my job. So calling them isn't an option. I also didn't check it as I wasn't the one who signed for it. Also, as I bought it using the eBay app on my iPhone, the advert was different from the website version. It only says...
"Please read our terms & conditions link for full returns policy"
From the eBay app there is no was that I can see this link. I have not got that option.
As far as I see it my only option is to pay out my own money and have it sent back to them, that will cost me at least £20.
Anyone else ever been in the same situation?

There's an ebay Board down below...try there?0 -
It depends how the item was described, but if the item is not as described the seller should cover the cost of returning the goods.
The only problem being if they refuse.
You can open an eBay case but they will just insist you return the item to the seller and supply a tracking ID before a full refund is issued. To be honest, this is probably the easiest way if they are not forthcoming in having it collected.0 -
Hi

I think the ebay specialists will be better placed to help you on this one, so I'll move the thread across for you.
Good luck

Call Trading Standards/Consumer Direct - they need to be informed about this one. Sale of Goods Act allows you a reasonable time to inspect the item; they cannot insist you accepted it simply by receiving it.
Other than that, regarding the practicalities of actually obtaining a refunding
