Tax credits and childcare

If you are working part time and entitlied to the childcare element of tax credits can you claim full time childcare? For example if I was to work 16 hours over 3 days can I put my child in nursery 5 days a week and the tax credits would pay? Or do they only pay for childcare that is essential?

If you have a child and only work 3 days why do you want the child in a nursery the other two? Why did you bother having a child in the first place!

For the years I have worked over 50 hours per week paying tax I did not pay for folks like you!

The question is for my friend. She is a SAHM. She would like 3 days at work, 2 days to herself and 2 days with her kids. She is sufferening mentally being at home with the children full time. If she was a high flyer you would not have a problem with her children being in childcare full time.

I am not here to debate the rights and wrongs, but to get some answers for her.

Her husband works full time and is on £12k. She will be earing around £7k.

T.C. need to know the costs of the childcare so she wouldn't be able to claim any extra if they were not there. (Unless she fiddled the forms to say they are there more than they are but that would be fraudulent)

They will be in childcare full time. I just wanted to know if tax credits will pay full time childcare if you only work part time.

Childcare will be £405 per week for the 4 children
  • I have three kids, I work 16 hours a week and am pregnant with my fourth. I dream of having time to myself but would NEVER put my kids into childcare if I wasn't working.

I think you just send the contract in from the childcare provider and they work it out from that. Dont think they check the hours you work against childcare you claim. Best to check though.

I used to work nights and aston went into a nursery 2 days a week so i could sleep when i got home from work.
There is a limit to what bthey will pay, i'm not sure how much it would be for 4 children though.

I asked a similar querie when I rang tax credits a while ago as I needed to claim for quite a few more hours than I actually work to cover my travelling time etc and they said that was fine.
However, to claim for extra days that someone isn't working is fraudulent.

I agree with linnyp......you cannot work the minimum of 16 hours and then expect tax credits to pay for 5 days....it's going to be more than you earn!
