What on earth's a dummy clip?

One local woman makes and sells clothes and she once made a sleeping bag for a newborn and advertised it for sale on her facebook page and said her baby uses the same. It looked like a gym bag that had a ribbon that tied up around the babies neck! Looked scary and she had so many comments off other mums on how dangerous it was she stopped making and selling them.

You can also report her page to facebook as they do not allow it to be used for selling.

I'm 31 and managed to nearly strangle myself on a sleeping bag with a drawstring round the neck, I don't think it would ever have occurred to me to make one for a baby!
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

There are some dummy clips that are safe such as if the beads are individually knotted on, ie...knot, bead, knot, bead, knot, bead like how the amber necklaces are made.

If the thread breaks you only get 1 bead fall off as opposed to 12 or so.

Personally I hate anything that is 'bling' and aimed at babies.

It only takes 1 bead to choke a baby though.

I can't stand all this kind of stuff for little ones. Crap bits of 'Dior' ribbon on a cheap cardy from the market, dummy clips, rhinestoned blinged bottles, dummies, socks, babygro's, blankets etc.

So dangeous, but some Mum's think they're fantastic. They need their heads examining

its sad really i see loadsa people selling this stuff on facebook and it all boils down to the mums buying these diamonte dummy and stuff to make their babies "cool". Theres not other purpose to having a dummy like that or a fancy dummy clip other than a fashion accessory.
I certainly would take the chance with my precious kids buying tthem anything like this. You did the right thing OP, u would have felt guily if u hadnt reported it.

  • Trading Standards, however I don't think they will do much if she is just flogging to friends. If she is selling to strangers they should come down hard on her.

But - from the dummyclips site:
"We create the perfect dummyclips for your reborn dolly, dollys or however you choose to use our products"

So - not actually intended for real life babies??

im not sure if it is a poor attempt at irony, but theres a message on that first page that states these clips should not be left with small children due to small parts?!

I can imagine the types that buy these, I really dont think safety will be at the forefront of their mind

    just noted post above

If they are meant for folk who buy new born dolls and treat them like an actual child, it should say so. They should not effectively state 'if you choose to use this with your child, don't leave them unattended' and expect that absolves them of any responsibility. Even if a child was supervised, you can't watch them every single second.

Someone I know uses one of these with a toddler, glad I'm not the only one who wondered about choking.
