When did you last check the oil level? There will be a dipstick for the automatic gearbox. Check the level with the engine running and when warm.0

To be serious, what car is it, what year, and is it a true automatic, or a modern semi?0

No it is not - it's natural tendency should be to climb the hill, if anything.sebastianj wrote: »My automatic car tends to roll back when on a hill 'when in drive',is this normal?Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Depends entirely on the car. Mine rolls back when gravity overcomes the torque converter at idle.0 -

Not if its a CVT or other semi auto piece of crap.0 -
Auto means nothing without a car make. Torque converter, CVT, DSG, powershift, MMT are just a few 'auto boxes', some roll back, some don't.0

            Many thanks,
It is a Toyota, semi automatic, it runs fine. i felt it jerking when in 1st gear start/stop. has just been serviced. So roll back a little is normal.
I will check the oil level.

There's me thinking that automatics were invented for people unable to master the art of gear changes and clutch controlsome roll back, some don't.
