Do I have to pay credit card fee?

Hi Guys,
Some advice please if anyone can advise I'd be really greatful.....
Wife and I paid First Choice for a last minute break, using our credit card. At point of sale we were told a credit card fee of £45 would apply. This amount appeared on a receipt so we assumed it had been paid.
Long story short, we were really pi*%ed around by First Choice whilst away and not impressed by their online service.
Once back home, we have been contacted by store saying we owe them the credit card fee. This is because salesperson made an error and did not apply the charge.
Do we have to pay?

Check your account it see if it matches the amount on the receipt. If the receipt says you paid it and that amount was taken from your account I would consider it that you've already paid the fees.0

I would take the view that it's their mistake and quite happily tell them to stuff it.Debt in 2008 - £26000 Current debt - £59490

And when First Choice issue a small claims action against them? Then they'll end up with a CCJ, and having to pay back costs as well. Brilliant advice, genius! :rotfl:
OP, you are liable for the money (if it has not already been paid). Perhaps you could try to negotiate it down, but if you do choose to ignore it be aware of the repercussions if they decide to take it further.0 -

Raise a complaint about their service and they'll probably write it off as a goodwill gesture or to meet you halfway. If not then complain to the press and they'll pro Bly back down then.0

If they forget to apply the charge and it didn't appear on your receipt then you might get away with it. However, if they took less money than was stated on your invoice, you've not got a chance.
If you don't pay it, they might just take it from your CC, stating that you owe that amount should you request a chargeback.
So I'd say its just easier to pay it, IF you have not already. Ask for proof that it's not been paid.0 -

You pay for a holiday and find on your statement that you have been overcharged by £45.
Would you consider a 50% refund acceptable??
No of course you wouldn't.
Pay up and if you think you have a complaint about your holiday or the holiday shop go through the proper channels.0 -

Sorry, I can't believe some of the 'advice' that has been offered here. Let's take a step back: £45 as a fee for using your credit card? Outrageous and clearly a charge that does not reflect the cost of the transaction.
If the shop has not taken the charge originally, then it is their fault and you should tell them to take a walk. They can't take money from your card, as you could claim it back immediately from your credit card provider as it was an unauthorised transaction - as I did when a restaurant tried this cheeky attempt - not only did they suffer a chargeback, with associated fine that a chargeback involves for the merchant, but I got a free meal for two upon letting HQ know what they had done.0
