Yes, absolutely. Just to rephrase my original post - I am not accusing Virgin of wrong doing. I'm just gutted that 24hrs after I booked the price dropped so much and was wondering if anyone had any useful info if this had happened to them

Yes it has happened to other people and yes, they have just had to 'suck it up'

    Righto

Have just priced up the holiday that you had posted earlier in the Beat My Quote thread.

Online price £3510, regular price £3795.

Is this what you are referring to?

I would be very interested to know how you managed to get a cheaper price over the phone from Virgin than you did online, seeing as though they usually always offer a discount for booking online?

I have booked two long haul holidays via Virgin Holidays in the past 3 years and in neither case has it been cheaper online than by phone.

PS: even without the PE seats I would have said 10 nights at the Melia Varadero for £2800 was well overpriced, did you think about checking prices with the likes of First Choice/Thomson?

I am a virgin credit card holder which I think I contributed to the price. My booking price was £3681 incl v room, premium economy, transfers and visa.

Lowest price I found online after an afternoon price checking was on virgins own site at £3710 that day.

Thomson and first choice don't offer the property. The only other company in the same ball park was the holiday place

I was indeed happy with the price. I went back through the booking process the next day to get the flight times to book my car parking.

I work for a tour operator and I know as well as anyone that prices change in travel. My point was that I was still entitled to Virgin's 14 day lowest price guarantee because the price changed the very next day. If I can easily save myself £200 then I will, that's why we all use this website right?

You're lucky. When I booked with virgin recently they gave me one price and then charged me more the next day AFTER I had paid deposit!

    Blimey! Thought that was illegal?

Got the money back in the end but it was a bloody nightmare. And it cost me a fortune phoning them. Their customer services sucks.

I just came across this and, while will83 isn't really entitled to the difference (this is tantamount to buying your groceries today and going back for the next 14 days to claim refunds if the price has gone down) as he made an agreement and finalized it by paying the deposit, Virgin hates bad press and, given the right amount of complaining, will knock the £200 off. I worked for them until recently and have seen them discount down to a loss because somebody complained enough.
