Virgin Holidays price match - Advice please

Hi there,
I booked a holiday on Monday night over the phone with Virgin Holidays (£3700 worth) over the phone which was marginally cheaper than online.
I paid my deposit over the phone.
The next day I checked online and the price had dropped to £3500 - I got in touch with VH thinking they would have a decent customer service department and got told tough luck in a nutshell. I also tried to invoke their lowest price guarantee which is good for 14 days from booking and was told they won't honour their own prices as part of that guarantee.
Does anyone have any suggestions of what I can do? If its tough luck and one of those things then fine, but the fact that it had gone down within 24hrs of making the booking that hurts.
Appreciate any advices

Sorry but going for the 'tough luck' vote here. You must have been happy with the price when you booked it.
Why did you check the price again after you had booked?
If it had gone up by £200 would you be happy to pay the extra to Virgin?0 -

I was indeed happy with the price. I went back through the booking process the next day to get the flight times to book my car parking.
I work for a tour operator and I know as well as anyone that prices change in travel. My point was that I was still entitled to Virgin's 14 day lowest price guarantee because the price changed the very next day. If I can easily save myself £200 then I will, that's why we all use this website right?0 -
The point is that you cannot save yourself £200 here can you.
Why did you not add a provisio to the telephone booking to the effect that you would want to pricematch - something you could not do with an internet booking?0 -

If that was the case then anybody who is anybody would be trying to reduce the price of their holidays if they had noticed that the price has dropped within two weeks of booking with Virgin.
If you work in the travel industry as you claim then I am quite surprised that you even took the trouble to post this query tbh.0 -
Thanks for the friendly welcome!
I don't understand what is so wrong here? Virgin say that if you find the holiday you booked within 14 days for a lower price they will match it0 -

When I made the booking it was cheaper on the phone than online and I checked that they would price match if I found it lower priced within 14 days0 -
Take it up as a formal complaint then.
You send a letter they eventually will reply you send off another letter etc - lets see who gets tired first.
Ask them to listen to the sales call. This would be your best option.0 -

Thanks, I guess that's what I will end up doing. The guy on the call is not in the wrong, he didn't tell me anything incorrect about the price guarantee though0 -

the price match saysany other ABTA Tour Operator holding an ATOL licence, offering an identical holiday which is available for the same dates at a lower price than you have paid us
not price match with another of their own holidays0 -

Yes, absolutely. Just to rephrase my original post - I am not accusing Virgin of wrong doing. I'm just gutted that 24hrs after I booked the price dropped so much and was wondering if anyone had any useful info if this had happened to them0
