Thanks ever so much. You have all been helpful.

However, there's just one thing that I still wondered.

On the card that came from vanquis, it had an application form with our names filled out already, and had our yearly joint income. How could they possibly have know that? I find it very disturbing that some random credit card company who I have never had anything to do with, knows our joint annual income, virtually to the nearest pound. Shouldn't only the tax office and tax credits and our employers and people like that know this kind of info?

    Hi Bugsy.

I know that bankruptcy affects your credit records for years, but do you know the answer to my last question? I wondered how Vanquis knew mine and my husband's joint income? Almost exactly.

Have you ever filled in any joint loan applications online as many companies are known to sell your details on, experian(credit expert) etc.

I don't think so Bugsy. Not online for sure. And the only loans we had were with the bank, and that was more than 3/4 years ago, the last time we took out a loan. And the income was different then. It's really odd. As I said, I would've thought that the only people who should know this info, would be the tax office and suchlike; not random loan companies who we have never had contact with. Creepy.

Yep there are ways and means how these companies get your details but as you say it's creepy, I blame the computer boom...

Have you ever received marketing calls? A lot of these companies sell your info on.

Also didn't Call Credit release a new product / add extra fandangles to their existing product that tracks the data subject's income as reported by their bank?

I remember reading about a service call credit offer which they market to lenders as a tool that more easily helps identify potential customers by sharing income information?

As you bankruptcy remains on your credit file for 6 years it will be difficult to obtain credit with low interst rates.

My bankruptcy order is still on my credit file and I have two credit cards, Nationwide with £3,200 limit and 15.9% APR, and Creation, with £3,000 limit and 17.9% APR.

I also have a mortgage at 2.9% APR

If you rebuild impeccable credit history from day one a discharged bankruptcy order needn't cause problems.

Must say, it is a bit of a pain, not being able to even have a ... Christmas catalogue!

Is this really such a pain? Anything in the catalogue would be available from other shops / websites and you could pay for the stuff as and when you have the money (i.e. not get it on credit). There are too many people on here who write that they had problems that started with spending more than they could afford on Christmas.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.
