I've read the T&Cs. I think this is what you're thinking of:

'For transactions equal to £150.00 GBP or more in value, the seller needs to provide proof of receipt (signed, or otherwise acknowledged, by the buyer) in addition to postage and tracking information.'

See thats the killer isnt it, anyone wanting to scam you wont sign, they get someone else to sign. Or what if the postman doesn't ask for a signature, or signs themselves or gets a neighbour to sign?

Paypal does not treat any of that as acknowledged by the buyer and the seller protection is worth squat.

Whats the point of providing seller protection if the seller needs to prove the buyer has signed for the goods? How can the seller provide that if the buyer didnt sign for the goods but the post office say they delivered it?

Come again? If it's been signed, you're protected... assuming you didn't send to the unconfirmed address some hacker just requested delivery to.

If you choose to send via standard mail, that's your funeral.

Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j

Completely wrong - taken from the paypal user agreement at

    https://www.paypal.com/uk/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=p/gen/ua/policy_spp-outside

and i quote you and the agreement here "For transactions equal to £150.00 GBP or more in value, the seller needs to provide proof of receipt (signed, or otherwise acknowledged, by the buyer) in addition to postage and tracking information."

You are NOT protected if it is merely signed for, it has to be by the buyer OR you have to prove the buyer acknowledged the delivery and whats the odds of your average fraudster doing that??
  • The same thing happened to me. I sold a phone for £100 and the seller reversed the charge after recieving the item. :(
  • I have never sold anything on ebay but i buy all the time and use paypal because it's easier.

A couple of years ago i had £460 taken from my bank account through paypal for a transaction i knew nothing about. I check my internet banking everyday, so i spotted it while paypal were still holding the money, they stopped the transaction and after a fight and me having to send a signed affidavit i eventually got my money back. Barclays were NO help at all. It's a good job my mam and dad had enough money to lend me to put in my bank till it was sorted.

It's scary that people can do that.
