skype call quality

Just lately the call quality on Skype seems to have gone downhill. I am not sure what is happening, the internet radio works without any drop outs, web pages load fine (most times) but skype call speech from the other side has fade outs. My voice to the other caller is fine.
I called their call/echo service and it checked out OK.
Any clues what might be the problem?

Why a 2nd thread only 3 MINUTES after the first?

Why? well because after writing that htread out I hit the submit button and it came up 'page cannot be displayed' - I therefore mistakenly assumed the thread had been lost and re-wrote it.
and to add I don't see any way of deleting it0 -
If the person you're calling is on ADSL, the bottleneck in the path is likely to be the link to their ISP, all other things being equal. I.e. not within your control.
If the "fade outs" are only with one person, I wouldn't rule out a faulty mic at their end...0 -
Are you calling a real phone at the other end? I suspect such calls are often affected by poor gateway quality between internet & phone systems. I often get poor Skype to phone while Skype to Skype is fine.0

The funny thing is that its always been fine (3+yrs) to the same skype-skype callers now just the last couple of weeks the trouble started.....which sort of makes me think that all their microphones have just failed.
I just downloaded a newer version of skype and will give it a try this evening
thanks for the feedback! :beer:0
