Yes definitely ask them first though in fact I'd call a couple of times and speak to different advisors and go with the majority (I've been given conflicting advise from them many times)0

If I average out that i work 24hours a week on minimum wage on entitled to its giving me £30.00 wtc a week but then asking me to pay £23.00 towards hb and £7.00 towards council tax...grrr I feel Im at a total loss here.
What would you lovely guys do in this situation???
Where are you getting your figures from? I use the 'do I qualify' you should get working tax credit and child tax credit - housing you will have to pay yourself0 -
I don't mean to be negative but I have a job where the basic hours are 16hours a week and I can be asked do upto 35 depending on business needs and you do have to be very flexible. It is probably different in different workplaces but in mine the hours and days I work vary every week, we're just given a schedule at the end of one week for the next. There is no routine and I really struggle to make plans and appointments around work when my hours change week to week. I didn't realise quite how flexible I would be expected to be. I have no idea how my colleagues with kids cope so you do need to carefully consider whether such a variable work schedule and being worse off than on JSA will work for your family. Remember you are not a loser, even if this job isn't right for you it's positive you got an offer.0

I use entitled to calculator which tells you based on your income what you are entitled to in terms of hb ctb ctc and wtc.
At the moment Im on JSA my partner is claiming for both of us but he is finding it difficult to get work due to lack of experience. I had to stop my JSA and let him claim for both of us as I was 29 weeks pregnant.
So at the moment we get
JSA...CTC..HB and CTB...not forgetting healthy start vouchers which total upto £50.00 a month and free school meals for my 9yo in school,
If I work I end up about £80.00 worse off or even more. The thing is though I hate sitting at home doing nothing waiting for the next giro to get paid into his acc. Id much rather work!!!0 -

Thanks so much hun,, I just really want a job and yeah it sounds exactly as you described it. I was only given full info today at the interview I think you may be talking about the same company!!

Also watch for the holiday scam.
Only getting holidays on the 16 hours not the hours you work this saves the company a minimum of 12.07%.0 -

Not eligible for WTC as you have to work 24+ hours to be awarded!
Not a lone parent, partner will be looking after the kids and cant get WTC as only contracted to 16 hours per week.
Can't your partner pick up 8 hours work from somewhere? As long as one of you is working for 16 hours, you only have to work 24 hours between you to get WTC.0 -

Thanks was also advised of this and the fact no sick pay for first year.
Ive hardly slept (sad I know)...Im just so literally peeved of. Ive worked it out on 16 hr contract penny for penny and without incuding fuels costs there and back Im worse off by £166.60 per month.
Now Im in the jist of thinking is it worth it???????????? Its not a very reputable company (though it is spread UK wide like hot fire). I dont know what the future holds in terms of jobs so I might get something else but then on the other hand I might not.0 -
If you can manage financially and you dont see any possibility of jeopardizing your well being / or your little ones, then I'd take the job. Money is just one aspect of a job (i know it's v import though!)
You get to socialise with work colleagues (if you want to), you also get to interact with people throughout your working day. You get to feel you are doing something positive. You get used (re-used) to a working / life , balance. You get up early and feel productive when you get home.
You get recent experience to support your other job applications.
So lots of plusses, and if you have a supportive partner I'd say go for it. But I wouldn't take it (personally)if you think it's going to really badly impact you financially to the extent that you can't manage anymore !0 -

Hi tactful,
Thats exactly why I want to accept the job because o all the plusses. but being worse off than when on JSA...its a downer..(TBH Im not suprised unemployment rates are mega high, but thats a different can of worms)...
Im thinking of accepting the 3 month temp contract meanwhile super actively searching for any other job opps.
And I suppose if I do find Im finding it really difficult with finances I will just have to go back on JSA..its my partners claim anyway...
See thats another thing Im worried about if I was to start and could not ope financially and went back on JSA would I get done for making myself unemployed??? Even though the claim is in my partners name.
Have not had anything back from the building societies yet so who knows...Or I have got an assessment day pre-booked in Sep for a good paid role..and I was only one point off a pass when I went last time.
I really am confused!!0
