So dissapointed been offered a job BUT.......

Good News!!
I've had all 5 interviews...1 led to a face to face interview today:T:T Ive been offered the job BRAVO!!! (well chuffed)

Bad news!!

 Above company is offering me 3 months temp contract ( might go permanent depending on performance)
And is offering 16hours a week but could do upto 35 depending on business needs. Will always stay as a p/t contract.
Pay is minimum wage
If I accept the job offer i will be about £80.00 worse off than I am on JSA, as I will have to pay fuel there and back (25 min drive), school dinners and won't get healthy start vouchers for lil ones milk (which is ruddy expensive).

On the upside I'll be in work and can look for another job.

3 of the other interviews have not got back to me yet but seemed quite promising ( got to go to face to face interviews yet and the rest of the recruitment process) these jobs are in building societies which carry out credit checks. Ive checked my credit report on experian Ive got a £1300.00 default and equifax is £2000.00. Ive also got a ccj which was not my fault it was to do with a car insurance claim which has been settled so that will be satisfied on my credit report.

I could clear my credit report by lending money off family and friends but then Im not guaranteed a job in the building societies. The hours are full time and the pay is also a lot better..

Now what do I do??
Shall I start the above job and apply for others?? (Bearing in mind 4 weeks compulsory training no time allowed off)

Shall I refuse the above job offer and settle my credit hoping I might get a job within a building society to pay off my debt to family and friends?

Or do I wait for the building societys to give me an answer and then settle my credit report?

Or do I just carry on applying or jobs till something suitable comes up,

Please help any help or advice greatly appreciated feel like a right loser at the minute!!!

If you pay your debts, they're not magically wiped off your credit record. Your credit history might well prevent you from working in building societies in the types of roles you describe.

Have you looked into Working Tax Credits?

If you're a lone parent and you work 16 hours a week, you can claim WTC.

Hi thanks for your reply and thanks for reading...I understand the debts will not be wiped off but will show as satisfied.

Not eligible for WTC as you have to work 24+ hours to be awarded!

Not a lone parent, partner will be looking after the kids and cant get WTC as only contracted to 16 hours per week.

Could you perhaps insist on/negotiate a 24 hour contract? If they have suggested you might be needed 35 hours a week, and have already decided you're the one for the job, you might be in luck.

Already asked them they said they dont offer a contract of more than 16 hours for new employees and apparently many companies are starting to do the same

ditto to agree asking for 24hr contract, parttime can be anything upto 30hr week contract, so its as thou you have asked to go full time.

They won't offer me I asked today at the interview and said even after the inital 3 months if I was successful and stayed on ould they up my hours in the contract so maybe I could claim WTC they said no got existing employees asking the same. Its a call centre based position so quite busy.

If I was you I'd take the job. The employer is putting you on a 16hr contract because that is all they can guarantee but there could be overtime or cover shifts, I would take the job do the training and assess your hours for the first 2 months if you get a couple of days overtime a month it could average your hours out to 24 per week. I know it's not ideal but I know someone who only worked full time for 49 weeks a year and had 13 off (worked for an agency - had all of the school holidays off) and she was eligible for WTC because it averaged out

If I average out that i work 24hours a week on minimum wage on entitled to its giving me £30.00 wtc a week but then asking me to pay £23.00 towards hb and £7.00 towards council tax...grrr I feel Im at a total loss here.

What would you lovely guys do in this situation???
