It's certainly a shocker when you first arrive, but it is very friendly and rather like being on the Grand Tour; you never can guess what's around the next corner.
Crazy, seductive place.

I agree about Rome, esp Trevi. But Venice is just fine on your own, there are considerably less statues of snogging couplesNorma_Desmond wrote: »Rome and Venice will knock your socks off, but I can't help feeling that they're even more special 'done' as a couple.

Did you visit the secret room?:eek::eek:Norma_Desmond wrote: »The museum is out of this world, the people exuberant but friendly and the food is divine.
The food in Naples is very over-rated, and it doesn't feel like the safest place because it is so in-your-face. I'm with you on the rest of Amalfi though; you could easily spend a whole day at Pompeii in particular - in fact I did, and revelled in recounting my Latin lessons!Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Erm, yes, the ancient Italians were very inventive and ahem, liberal if not bl**dy desperate. Filthy perverts, the lot of them :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Norma_Desmond wrote: »Oh yes!

ETA - OP, I bet you plump for Napoli now

There's one 'scene' I particularly remember..........
Not for discussion before the watershed tho'.....or in polite company.
The worst of it was that my elderly mother insisted on seeing the room; "I'm a retired barrister, I've seen it all, nothing shocks me...."
She stopped dead in front of a fresco, peered closer and asked, very loudly, "What the bloody hell is THAT?"
DH and I left her in there for ages."I'm ready for my close-up Mr. DeMille...."0 -
I was in Naples a couple of months ago, and found it downright scary. I've visited many european cities and have never felt so unsafe. Only place I've ever been in a hurry to leave.0

Other than the whole of Ireland, Naples is the friendliest place I've ever visited! Seriously! It might be because we were travelling as a family but the locals were very friendly, didn't feel unsafe anywhere, people offered us help when we looking lost, old ladies gave the kids biscuits, plus we stopped for lunch in a poky cafe where we had the biggest, best and cheapest pizzas we've ever had.
The archeological museum is a must if you've been to Pompeii.0 -

It's a very easy train journey to Florence from Pisa. See link.0 -
Can I second the people mentioning Florence (Firenze).
Its small enough so you don't feel swamped, but there's plenty to see and do - you have the Uffizi gallery which is amazing with all its original Boticellis, the statue of David, Santa Croce, aesthetically its very beautiful, etc.
And as said before very easy to get to from Pisa, which is a cheap, short flight.
