Christmas is coming and I am in a flap.
I have already started to buy extra items and freeze them so that the christmas shop is not so much of a shock to my system.
So far I have cocktail sausages, smoked salmon and Gammon joints. I am thinking of starting to buy £10 a weeks worth between now and then.
What items should I start with? Does anybody want to join me in getting the food ready?£36/£240

Yes please!
There is only me, hubby and our new baby for Christmas and New Year's Eve (but we are going out NY Day). I am desperate to fill up the freezer and cupboards before the baby is born so that all we need to get is fresh stuff nearer the time.
But I really struggle as to what we are actually going to need, if I can join in it will keep me motivated and help me to know what to buy.
It is a case of complete baby brain/brain fog from pure exhaustion which appears to be stopping me having the ability to think properly or remember!
On my shopping list this week I have sage and onion stuffing and a tin of celebrations lol. Very imaginative!Everything is always better after a cup of tea0 -
How about sausage meat (stuffing), streaky bacon (for putting over the bird and around the pigs in blankets), prawns or pat! (for the starter). Also drinks (keep them in the loft!), any tins or dried food that you use at Christmas, also kept out of the way if you have the space. This might include stuffing mix, goose fat, custard...
You have me thinking now...0 -
That is even more reason to be sorted out chirpy. It will give you more time to spend with the little one when the time comes. :j
I have a problem on freezer space but I am fine other wise, I can put it under the bed if need be.
My next buy is going to be Robertsons mincemeat, 20p a jar at MrT at the moment. :j£36/£240

I'm all over it :snow_laug, I have 1kg tubs of mincemeat bought in the Sainsbobs sale after Christmas for 10p, bought pigs in blankets couple of weeks ago as they were on offer, so they are safely stashed in the freezer, oh just remembered sausagemeat in there too.
Just keeping my eye out for bargain meat , streaky bacon and the like, I already have the candy canes for making chocs, with the 19p Lidl chocolate I bought on offer a couple of weeks ago.
Christmas crackers and puddings bought in sales after Christmas last year, oh and got the Christmas nuts when they were all half price in Mr. A last week.
I like to buy bit by bit each week or when I see a great deal, but now I have wrote it all down I am frightening myself with my efficiency and seem to have done most of it after a brief moment of panic :j
I have a mental list of things that I want for Christmas, eg stuffing, gravy, meats, crackers etc or write it down if easier and keep your eyes peeled when shopping for deals or reductions .
I use mysupermarket to do my shopping list and add extra bits for Christmas on there and check offers , so its included in the weekly budget.
Hope that helpsIf its not cheap and its not free I don't want it and I will wait till it is0 -
That is a good idea, I think I will make a list and cross them off as I manage to get them, cheap hopefully.£36/£240

What a good idea! Have you started present shopping yet? I'm one of those people who leaves it until far too late and then regrets it...0

I don't understand this.. do you not eat the rest of the year? The shops are closed for a whole 1 day why the great need to behave like there is a famine coming? It is this famine mentality which means there is a lack of bread and milk and veggies on the shelves.
I have a family gathering (for about 25-30) Boxing Day for which I buy biscuits and bake cake and make jelly for.. and other than that we eat as normal.. Christmas dinner is nothing more than a Sunday roast.
I can't be the only one that doesn't get worked into a frenzy about food shopping for Christmas...
