Happy New Year Everyone :j
Not that happy here, Mr T basic grapes have gone up from 99p (Oct) to £1.20 (Nov) to £1.75 (Today)
Just something else we can't have every week.
Trying to make sure the kids eat a healthy diet is getting harder everyday :mad:0 -
Well, it's taken about a week, but I have finally made it through all 53 pages on this thread! Interesting stuff! I have a store cupboard (shelving in the utility) and like most people - add a few bits and pieces each week. All the usuals which have been mentioned. I find I eat a wider variety of foods having a store - adding ingredients to meals which I wouldn't necessarily think to buy in a generl weekly or monthly shop. And having read about Approved Foods on this thread, I now have my first order in!0

No way, I thought it was only Americans that did this! (Anyone seen the extream coupon tv program?) I moved into my own flat 2 years ago with my boyfriend at the time (now fiancee), cupboards were never fully stocked when I lived at home and now in our own flat we wouldn't even have the room if we even wanted to stockpile! Though we do have 3 industrial sized toilet rolls taking up half of the space under the bed....0

If I have to downsize ever I will still take my food with me and I don't care if it is on show in rooms that I live as there is only me. If I need to hide it I'll put shelves up(perhaps)and draw a curtain across. Use a table that is open underneath and shove food there and again drape a cover and hide it from show...nobody visits so I don't care...If I ever get a new bed with drawers or is raised above the floor I'll store food there too..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. A very belated new year to everyone. I have YEARS of food storage. I have a massive pantry, its really a meter room, but i have loads of shelving in there and also shelving on the wall and its rammed to the rafters. I buy things like cous cous when its 99p for 12 packs, bulgar wheat packs x 6 99p etc, tins, jars of sauces and i find that i only really need to shop for meat, salad and fruit, which is really cheap where i live. I really try to run it down, but some bargain or another comes along to stock it back up.0

Having a store cupboard is far different from food hoarding. I keep a store cupboard just like my mother and my gran used to. Its good to have a spare bag sugar/flour or a tin of tomatoes etc when needed, or to be able to bake a cake without running to the shop for something. My ex mil kept nothing at all in the house and if visitors called on a sunday afternoon, she had to run to the local shop to buy bread, butter and sandwich fillings... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

I don't know if what I have counts as a store cupboard or not. I always have bits for baking in (including sr and plain flour, sugar, instant yeast etc) and my food cupboard always has around a dozen mixed cans of stuff - usually tinned tomatoes, various tinned beans, sweetcord and a few other bits. I always have a good amount of rice and pasta etc in and usually a few tins or packets of soup for those can't be bothered days. I also invariably have a big bag of oats!Everyone has a dark side... apparently mine is called Harold?!? :huh:0

Sounds good to me redfragglebiker. Anything like that(more or less)is great."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson
