Received Tax Credits Award Notice

Received our Tax credits award notice today am not happy, as we're not going to be receiving anything at all now, whereas we have before.

My DH works 35+ hours a week and I work 16. Our combined income for 2011-2012 was £27,653, income for 2010-2011 was £27,672.

I know our payments were reduced last year due to the tax credits people having my daughter down as middle rate mobility for the DLA, instead of the lower rate but that wasn't our fault, they had put that down and we didn't know anything about it.

I wasn't expecting not to receive anything. Don't know what to do! DH is going to go mad when he gets home!

Can you be a bit clearer? Are you entitled to something and you are not getting it because they are taking it back against an overpayment?

or are you saying it says your entitlement for the year is Nil?

I would have thought at that income level you would still get something, by a quick calc I would say about £1750.

have they added on the child disability element on your award notice?

Sorry, I wasn't sure what I needed to put.

The last page of the letter says the following:-

    Overpayment
    Up to 5 April 2011 ??? £4843.55

Of this £325.29 has already been collected back from later award(s).
£4518.26 will be collected from future award(s) by reducing your payments under section etc etc of the tax credits act 2002.

Ok, so you have an overpayment (quite a large one that you might want to look into disputing) but that should not reduce your payments to nil.

On one of the pages (possibly page 3) it should list out what they have included in the calculation.

For example WTC basic element, 30 hr element. Under neath it will show CTC as well and reduction due to income.

If you post those figures I can help you check it.

Sounds like your finalised award for last year.
What year does the award notice say it relates to?

    This is your 2011-2012 award.

It is confirming that you were entitled to 5624, and they paid you near enough that amount (£2.23 short). So you are not entitled to anything further for last year (April 2011-April 2012).

have you got an award notice for 12/13? That is the one you need for your current payments.

Think this may be the final award decision or provisional award decision for the last tax year from April 2011 to April 2012. What you have put also states they have paid you all but £2.23, so this will be added to your award for this tax year

What does it say on the front of this award notice above the box with the amounts in it? It will probably say Final Tax Credits Decision for the year 6 April 2011 to 5 April 2012.

You should get an award for this tax year April 2012 to April 2013 soon.

If in doubt call them and ask.

Keep calm, I know the HMRC like to send a tree of paper when they renew arawd notices, and this can be very confusing.

It says "final tax credit decision for 06/04/2011 - 05/04/2012".

So you reckon I should be getting another letter soon?

I know what you mean about them sending out so much paper. They used to send 2 letters saying exactly the same in separate A4 envelopes, one each addressed to me and DH. Now they just seem to send the one letter to both of us in an A5 envelope.

They reduced the income level from 40k to 26k , we earn just over 26k and wont get anything now ,we also have a disabled dependent, why not ring the help line then they will hopefully make things clearer.
