Hi!
New to the forum.
Read few very informative posts/threads.
Buying our first home (Reading )& need help.
The house we'r buying has recently fitted combi boiler.
But, the boiler is placed in bedroom 2...?
Trying to understand what will be the associated cost for moving it
(1) Ideally in kitchen/garage -on ground floor
(2) loft
Many Thanks.

Depends on the amount of work involved, and your local traders rates.
Best bet is to get a few quotes from local and national companies, and then go from there0 -
Thanks @ nomoneytoday
I understand ur point.
trying to understand a approx range..just to be sure, haven't underestimated the job ..
the house is in a good condition & this combi boiler was fitted just 7-8 mnths ago.0 -
Why do you think they put it in the bedroom?
You should get several written quotes for the cost of moving it.0 -
Although slightly different as ours is an oil-fired boiler, we recently had to have ours removed to allow us to build a new kitchen extension on the house we purchased a year ago. The new boiler had been fitted into an attached outbuilding when central heating was put in during 2010.
We paid £600  to have it removed and it will cost a further £800 approx to have it reinstalled in the new utility room (if the builders ever get it finished in all this bad weather, lol!), but we had one quote for £2800 for the whole job :eek:
As I say, this is for oil, so may well be way more expensive than gas, but even so DH and I had no idea it would be so expensive!Mortgage-free for fourteen years!

@phoebe1989seb,Thanks a lot
I was guessing it closer to the same estimate
many thanks0 -
It will depend on where your gas is, you have to get a right sized pipe to supply the boiler in its new place and the new boilers need an outside wall technically for the condensate pipe to drain thru,
I wanted mine moved from bathroom cupboard to kitchen -thought it would be ok coz gas hob there but engineer said it would be easier to fit in a bedroom which surprised me, he said the gas to the hob isnt anywhere near big enough supply pipe for boiler.
Ive no idea of cost, not moving it at the mo0 -
I can see why you ask but without the knowledge of the layout of the house it could be anything. It really depends on how far the gas supply is from the new location, how far the water pipes are, whether the location is suitable and easily vented, where the nearest power socket is and whether running the supplies are a simple matter (on the surface ) or need running through structural parts of the house. Only you know this. I had a combi moved from one side of an internal brick wall to another and even this cost £450.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0

Hi some years ago (6) in another house we had old boiler taken out and replaced by new combi, was up a floor but in same location, if that makes sense. Directly above e original site so pipe work just went upwards. Was £1600 for the new boiler, resiting, and recycling of old.
Made a huge difference to our bills that winter. Think the original boiler was older than me!!!Bossymoo

Why do we (as a nation) put boilers in the kitchen taking up valuable space where we need it most?
Why not put it in the bathroom or downstairs privy?0 -

:rotfl:Our 'privy' is in the garden, about 75' from the back door......it's the original privy from way back when and we're planning on converting it to a place to sit and read :rotfl:
Seriously, I know what you mean though, I hate boilers being on view in the kitchen unless it's unavoidable - in our last house we had a Rayburn so that was ok as they are more attractive and in our previous house the boiler was in the utility which is where we're having our current one re-sited toDon't get why a bedroom would be deemed a suitable place though.......my late uncle had his boiler in the third bedroom - seemed very odd to me!
