I should have asked which apartment you booked - it's just that i fancy visiting sorrento but have never really come across many self-catering options so wondered if you'd found a website that specialised in that area. Please could you tell me the name of the apartments or the name of the company?

The weather at that time is year can be unpredictable. Somewhat like Spain, one minute it can be sunny as you like... Then when that rain comes... boy it comes!

Just pack a good brolly and a mac :D. It's should be good though! Have a nice time!

Pompeii, Herculaneum and Vesuvius all easy on the train but a bus tour for the amalfi drive can be less stressful than diy - we found one that included lunch and a boat trip. You can book the boat to Capri yourself so don't bother with a tour - just get a cheap bus ticket to Ana Capri when you are there. And I wholeheartedly second the suggestion to take the chairlift to the top for views - still used for the wallpaper on my PC!

Ha ha, we knew October hol would be cooler when we booked it, but boy oh boy, are we sick of rain. Guess its down to the summer English camping trip to give us some sun. :rotfl:
  • i'd say in Sorrento itself, don't bother with the Foreigners club, the view is nice but the food and service were below par compared to everywhere else we went.

enjoy the limoncello shops, you 'll get offered MANY tasters *hic*

and remember to try the deserts, and if you can find the big ice cream place, that has a biblical sized menu, that was amazing!

I'm also going to Sorrento in October and can hardly wait!!

Thanks for all the tips! Keep them coming!

Any good suggestions for a special meal out one evening without breaking the bank? Also does anyone know of any boat fishing trips around sorrento and if so how much they woould cost?
  • Just wanted to say thanks. Sorrento was heavenly. Followed all your tips, and they were grand.
It's a bit sad , but the fact Sorrento is so used to English tourists meant we felt looked after so well by the Italians, and had no worries jumping on buses trains lifts, ferries and funiculars . They didn't let us get confused!

Sorrento was fab, Amalfi coast awesome, Herculaneum stunning, Vesuvius beautiful, everything exceeded its world class hype.

The only thing I wouldn't do again was capri. Beautiful, but v expensive ferry to visit a place overwhelmed with tourists. If only they could ban us, it would be everything it claims to be lol.

And we went at the end of the season, can't imagine how crowded the whole area would be in summer.

It was perfect. Thankyou for all your help

Thanks for the update. Capri was the one thing we didn't do there - we were going to but we met a couple describing it exactly as you did above...there was plently else there to keep us busy :)
