London Bus Strike

Options
Due to the wonderful London bus drivers I have just had to walk 4 miles to work  in the rain and I have to do it to get to my second job tonight.

Is anyone else as fed up and annoyed as me? lol

Bus drivers are well paid considering the unskilled work they do.

Only a complete idiot would assert that driving a bus is an unskilled job.

On the radio this morning the union rep said they did not know (or could not quantify) if they will have to work harder/longer but there will be more passengers so we want more money and if we don't get it we could strike during the olympics.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

Threatening to go on strike during the Olympics unless they get paid a bonus is nothing short of blackmail. However, the union know they will likely get away with it as there is no way in hell the government will allow anything to go wrong during the Olympics. Frankly if it were down to me I would tell them to get lost and do their worst, but seeing as have already paid out large bonuses to the tube and train drivers I guess that is unlikely to happen.

But the way some bus driver drive the bus, I think anyone even a complete muppet is qualified to drive a bus.

In fact, I was nearly killed by a bus driver and in that incident the only way I was able to save myself was to jump on to the pavement.

You could argue that no job is unskilled. Even picking up litter requires a small level of skill. It's all about whether they are easy to replace and personally I don't believe it will be difficult to replace a bus driver. It won't require that much training.

Ive wondered what your profession was. The fact you have taken exception to this comment has made me believe you are in fact a bus driver. Good on you, it's an important job and someone has to do it.

Well, yes, if you are prepared to employ people who can't do the job safely, obviously you can allow a complete muppet to do it.

On that basis you could say that because some doctors are hopeless a complete muppet is qualified to be a doctor.

Driving a bus properly is a moderately skilled job. It's not something you can train someone to do from scratch in a fortnight. It also carries a deal of responsibility and the job as a whole requires reliability.

So, by your logic, anyone who stands up for people doing a certain job must be employed doing that job?

The fact that you appear to believe that leads me to believe that you are not employed as a philosopher. :rotfl:

No but you seem like you really care about a bus driver which makes me think its a profession you have a vested interest in.

You have also called another poster an idiot just because he referred to it as "unskilled".

To resort to personal insults he must have really hit a nerve.

Can you get a job as a philosopher? I can't imagine it pays well.
