Wife has an mr2. I personally think its a better drive than the mx5 or mg.

If you love driving, then get a Lotus Elise. It doesn't suffer the same amount of HGF as the MGFs, despite it also being mid engined (its steering racks that seem to go more on these). Yes, you're sat on the floor. The interior looks like the designer went home for the day and forgot to finish the drawings off, and you're better off wearing a hat than putting the roof on... but just look at it...

I think the OP is aiming a bit higher than a 216 cabriolet - that has neither pose value nor driver appeal;)

you half started it with an old rover mgf though:)
at least OP didnt mention such a thing in his opening speech so i agree
lets please not even let him consider such a carbuncle on our roads

Our neighbor has a Saab convertible, 9 years old, 4 seats looks great and he has had no trouble with it in the 4 years he has owned it.

I had a vw eos (hard top) had nothing but problems with it after 18 months of problems I got rid of it I lost £6000 on depreciation. I did my research but obviously you can't guarantee that the car will be 100%

So do make sure you do your research before you buy

Get an MGTF! So much fun to drive :)

Mine is kept outside and has been for the two years I've had it. No hard top for winter unfortunately but the inside heats up quickly, it being so small!

The roof has never leaked, I think modern convertible roofs have waterproof membranes in them so leaks are unlikely.

Definitely check for signs of head gasket failure, it is a worry. Mine is a later one so has a coolant level sensor fitted, I still check regularly though!

didn't they swap from the Rover K Series unit in the S1 Elise to toyota power in the S2 (the car you've pictured) though?

Sure the Toyota was seen as a more reliable unit that could take a lot more power than the old K series.

    happy to be corrected though!

I've had one for 7 years from new. Very little needed apart from the usual - servicing, tyres, brake pads etc.

Possibly the best drivers car under £35,000 . I can't drive it without getting a smile on my face. They are not fast but will corner faster than virtually anything else due to the fantastic handling.

I'm getting rid of mine now but only because I need an Automatic cause of knee problems with my left leg.

If you are looking at an mx-5 don't worry if it hasn't had the timing belt changed - many people drive them until they break then replace them and reset the timing due to the non interference engine.

    Try one, you'll love it

What about an MB SLK - the soft top is made of metal & folds away on the button

Another vote for the MX-5. I had a mk1 as my only and it was never garaged, always stored outside rain or shine. It's great with the roof off, even in the winter. Only problem I had was through my own fault. Deciding to put the roof down in a sever frost without removing the rear window - it cracked it in half.
If I have helped in any way, and you feel like it - please press the thanks button
