beware when a dealer says its cat anything, they may not want your car and will be more than happy to just take cash so declare your car worthless

a mate had this they said the car was cat c so he auctioned it off losing £1500 and it turned out it wasnt on hpi at all (auctions must hpi a car they sell)

brake shudder is only a set of disks and pads, on a corsa that'd cost about £40

thanks manda. I did think he might be pulling a fast one so I had an appointment with a local dealer for tomorrow. He's just phoned me with the results of the HPI..........it's all true. He can see by the dates that it was a year before I bought the car so he was really nice on the phone and I'm still seeing him tomorrow to get a copy he's made me of the report and he says he'll still buy the car but not for his forecourt...............he's not had a chance to think about what price yet. Changed my insurance over today to the new car and I've only got 14 days on the corsa so I guess I see what he's offering and cut my losses. Gonna cost $40 a week after that. I'd love to get hold of the bloke that sold it to me, he told me what the HPI check said so I didn't bother getting one. Shame he left out the important bits though! One good thing is the guy who just phoned said not to worry the car is perfectly legal and safe to drive, I was upset because I've taken 2 kids everywhere in it for the last year.

  • I've been trying to find an answer to this for a while, so thought I'd try here. I have a car which took a bump and was declared a Cat C, so I got my paltry payout. The only damage is a dent in the door, the assessor's report stated that it was still roadworthy. My question is - if it is roadworthy, does it need the cosmetic repairs? Presumably it would pass an MOT even with the "damage", although a VIC check wouldn't be able to check the repairs because I haven't done any.
In short - am I allowed to keep driving the car, and will I be able to reMOT and tax it when the time comes?

    Thanks!
