Hi!
On one forum I found a post, where a nice Latvian lady says that she can get a cheaper car insurance quote from her sources, and want "only" 50 pounds as a charge for service. And she tells that she can get almoust any reasonable car up to 2litres no higher than 700. 700 is a complete maximum for a new driver. If you up to 30y old she can get you covered fully comp for 200-400, depends on car. And no claims make no sence at all. She claims it doesent matter.
It sounds like a scam to me, but there is a bunch of people who claims that cover is great, and one of them had an icident recently, and everything was covered.
Can anyone explain is it legal to charge for that? If that company exists why it is not advertaising itself everywhere???

    Umm .su? Soviet Union domain?

    Not FSA regulated
    Not ABI registered
    Unlikely to get car tax

Either the OP is joking or is in the process of falling for a scam!

This is a well known scam in Russia, which is now being brought Eastwards.

It is legal to charge for a quote on anything you like, but whether it's moral is another story.

In my home country (which is a former Soviet SSR, but not Russia) it's common to pay for a quote through a broker, however it would typically be a few Lari (1 lari is about 30p) rather than £50.

Also, as a fluent Russian speaker, the Russian is not perfect by any means, and looks like it has been done through translator.

This is no joke, they sparked a huge discussion already. But anyway it can be legal to charge 50 pounds for just a quote is'nt it?

And yes, it is a soviet union domain :D

Your missing the point, there are rules and regulations in the UK even acting as a broker so of course it's a scam!

I have seen something like this before. Unregulated individuals effectively doing the online applications for you. They take all your details, input it into comparison sites and then tell you that they can get it cheaper than your renewal. They then take the fee for effectively doing the online application for you.

These people are not regulated by the FSA. They are almost certainly in breach of FSA rules and acting unlawfully and you do not get any consumer protection from the FOS or other bodies if they input the information incorrectly. The latter was a case I heard about where this happened.
