I work for a small recruitment and training business and we were looking at creating an access database of candidates and clients but someone has recommended Sage ACT to us.
It looks good (maybe too big for us) but I just have a question on reporting.
Does anyone know how flexible the reporting tools are? Can Search or report on any of the data fields eg not just company but City or position?
Thanks

I used Act in a previous life when I worked in recruitment for client management.
To begin with it was great and really suited our needs, but as we grew we found we needed a different product.
Sage run courses on ACT (not sure where you are geographically) so it may be worth going on one of the courses to find out about it before you commit.Sealed Pot Challenge No. 2860 -
My advice would be to look at one of the online CRM`s
highrise (37signals is the developer) is one, and there are others out there. They scale well and are relatively cheap, means you can work from home easily etc. Trial versions available and as its internet based, you dont have to install anything.
Sage Act can be a real pain.
An Access database isnt a bad idea, but make sure that whoever develops it doesnt take that knowledge with them when they get hit by or a bus/leave the company.0 -
Take a look at CiviCRM? I've only just started using it, in a different context, but it seems pretty adaptable.Signature removed for peace of mind0

If you needed a car for your business, would you think of building it yourself with parts you bought at the breaker?
Building your own database application with Access is something like that.
It might work if you find a template suitable (check the Microsoft website) but most people are better off finding an off-shelf-solution. It might be ACT. If you use Microsoft Oulook, check out the Business Contact Manager addon.0
