A TV chef gave a good tip once - he said that one of the easiest ways of retrieving eggshell from egg mixture in a bowl is to put in a larger piece of shell and the smaller bits stick to it.

Honestly, it works...something to do with the egg white apparently  but it does work - i've done it loads of times.

Can I just add, there's some creamed sweetcorn in the back of my cupboard...waiting to be made into C & S soup :D I always add a good dollop of sherry too...and one for the cook

    Hi

I'm looking for some creamed sweetcorn for a Nigella recipie. So far I've been in Asda, Tesco, Morrisons & Waitrose. There is no sainsbury's near us :(

Has anyone seen any? I'm looking for a tin near the normal tinned sweetcorn. Am I even looking for the right thing in the right place?

You can get tins of creamed sweetcorn from manchester (china town) most chineese shops do them.

How odd that you cannot find creamed sweetcorn in UK shops? Here is SA it is a staple tinned food ;) It gets used for allsorts including tuna and sweetcorn pasta, just on its own as a veg, corn bread, but I will def try the soup recipe soon.

I dont think that liquidizing normal corn would be the same, although it has the skins in the texture wouldnt be quite right.

The only other suggestion is that you could buy it in shops that sell South African products.
  • I have been looking for past week and cant find it, but it was always available in Waitrose and Sainsburys. Probably bought last tin about 2 months ago. Will have a go at making some with little water and cornflour to thicken, then blitzing it. Its for Nigellas Sweetcorn pudding to go with the ham in coke, which is superb!!

The Nigella recipes calls for double cream, full fat milk and 5 eggs:eek:

As I lost 3.1/2 stones last year, I don't want to get into bad habits again:rotfl:

I think I'll maybe go for the soup option.

If anyone has any more ideas I'd be very grateful.
  • Fried chicken nanette is lovely, fry onions with chicken thighs, when nearly cooked add the creamed sweetcorn and if can spare the calories a bit of cream! Serve with jacket potatoes or mash. A weekly staple here.

I absolutely love creamed sweetcorn and often use it for my chuck a load of stuff in a pan and see how it comes out type of cookery.
Creamed sweetcorn is delicious with smoked haddock, broccoli and a bit of cream cheese, all muddled up together with a healthy dollop of cayenne pepper - that works really well as a potato filling. I also often use it as a sort of healthy base to sauces for serving with pasta. It goes well with seafood particularly I think.

I've also used to make quiches type things - adding other ingredients and some egg to make it set. Sets quite loosely, but tasty.
