Willpower?

Hi
I'm looking for some creamed sweetcorn for a Nigella recipie. So far I've been in Asda, Tesco, Morrisons & Waitrose. There is no sainsbury's near us
Has anyone seen any? I'm looking for a tin near the normal tinned sweetcorn. Am I even looking for the right thing in the right place?

working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
It did cross my mind, but I only own a poxy little hand blender, and things tend to come out more finely chopped than creamed
. Still worth a shot. I've done a quick Google and I can't find what other ingredients are in it, just lots more lovely recipies :rotfl:

Ingredients from the label on Green Giant "creamed style corn"
sweet corn
water
sugar
cornstarch
salt
no percentages given, but from the nv's 0.7g sugars and 0.2g sodium per 100g.
I got mine in a very "basic" tesco and have had it in Sainsburys but not Asda (in my area). You are looking in the right place.
If it's the recipe I'm thinking of it's lovely, I have it with the ham in Coke!

I have bought it at Tesco Metro before - tinned section by the seetcorn (only Green Giant make)Save the earth, it's the only planet with chocolate!0

I haven't seen it for years - I used to buy it in a chinese supermarket, so if you have one nearby it might be worth a try, used to love using it for chinese chicken and noodle soup - yum!
I suggest blitzing it in the liquidiser as suggested (I have also used a hand held food processor which was OK).
Manual way - use a pestle and mortar and bash it (not whilst wearing your favourite outfit though!) A great cure for PMT!Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

Thanks guys. I will keep checking the supermarkets, both english and oriental. Sadly we don't have and Oriental one near us but I might be going to Bristol in the near future and I know there is one down by the arches, so I might have to stock up along with the crispy duck type pancakes. Yum.
yorkshirejen - yes that is the recipe! I haven't made the ham in Coke - yet! I am quite partial to the Fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches
I will try making it in the meantime (thanks for the ingredients) but i might give the pestle and mortar a miss - you should see the mess I make on a normal day0 -
Willpower?,
I made the ham in coke for our Xmas dinner (we don't care for turkey) - It was magnificent!
I didn't faff on with the glaze though, I patted it with brown sugar. It developed a toffee coating. Will definately be making it again!!!
I have Feast if you want any recipes, PM me0 -
Sainsburys used to do it, my sister used to eat it all the time. One day I might be more organised...........

I've hit a bit of a problem with a recipe for Chicken & Sweet Corn Soup that I've found. I really like the sound of it as it's so very simple: just chicken (either fresh breast or leftover cooked), sweet corn, chicken stock (water & a cube) and egg.
But, can I find the creamed sweet corn it specifies? Can I :silenced: ! This immediately jeopardises it's future as an ingredient, as I require them to be reasonably readily available before I pass them on to you.
So, can you do it yourself? Is it just a case of getting a slightly larger tin of sweet corn, draining off the liquid, putting it into a bowl and then attacking it with either a stick blender or a fork? Having never seen the contents of a tin of ready creamed sweet corn, I don't know what end result I'm aiming for.The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -
Creamed sweet corn should be readily available in all the supermarkets.
It usually sits right next to the corn niblets.
If it comes in a huge tin, you can freeze what you don't want. Goes nice in jaffles. (toasted sandwiches)
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0
