  • I once tried blitzing some sweetcorn in a blender to make creamed sweetcorn for a similar recipe ... it didnt come out as i expected so it was a bit of a disaster - having said that i didnt know what it should look like so ...

  • I've had creamed corn before and it looks a bit like pavement pizza but without the red and green bits. Wonder why they're not selling it anymore, I thought it was readily available.

Maybe try Chinese/Asian supermarkets, hopefully there's one near you.

That said, I don't know if there's a mystery ingredient or the starch in the corn turns it quite creamy on mashing.

Maybe go in with a fork and add a bit of double cream.

Edit: Just had a google and Green Giant appear to make it still (see our products page). Here's the linky to their contact page and they should be able to tell you where it's stocked. Looks like their phone number is freephone!

I used it a few years back to make a soup. Sainsbury's stocked it then. I will have a look in ASDA tomorrow and see if they have it.

This may help as a start to make your own: -

I have a fab recipe for chicken and sweetcorn soup, it definitely needs creamed corn, I've tried it by blitzing regular corn with a hand-blender it just doesn't work. I can get it at a large Sainsbugs store near me or a really large Mr T, my local Asda, or small Mr T doesn't stock it. When you do find it stock up of a few tins.

    Happy cooking. :D

I've seen it in Sainsbury's and in Tesco, but not in every Supermarket.
It's also used in Nigella's Cornbread.

I've tried using a blender too and you end up with bits of skin that just dont disintegrate.

But, can I find the creamed sweet corn it specifies? Can I :silenced: ! This immediately jeopardises it's future as an ingredient, as I require them to be reasonably readily available.

So, can you do it yourself? Is it just a case of getting a slightly larger tin of sweet corn, draining off the liquid, putting it into a bowl and then attacking it with either a stick blender or a fork? Having never seen the contents of a tin of ready creamed sweet corn, I don't know what end result I'm aiming for.

If you lok at the ingredients here:
    http://shop.waiyeehong.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=2214

they list the ingredients for creamed corn as:
Corn, Water, Sugar, Modified Corn Starch, Salt.

I'd suggest that either you buy from your local asian supermarket, or continue to experiment by including the above ingredients!
(I am far too lazy, and just buy it in a can!)

    good luck!

I have just bought 24 cans in our local chinese supermarket!! I had originally picked up 6 large cans at 59p each, then went into the warehouse section and found a pack of 24 (same ones) for £7.95 - which makes them 33p per tin. :money: My DH thinks I have gone mad! DS and MIL have already nabbed a few each along with a printout of my recipe for Chicken & Sweetcorn Soup.
