I dont know how much you wish to spend or how far to travel but the Isle Of Wight is great for public transport. Cheaper ferry, hovercraft or catamaram travel by foot passenger. If you are on the east /south side of the island you have the rail link. Also busses cover most of the island. We went last year. Although I drove there we did not used the car until stocking up with supplies and petrol for the journey home at the nearest Mr T's. We stayed in Ryde.Back on the trains again!0

we don't have a car & can recommend the Isle of Wight - you can get the train to Portmouth & then over by either ferry or hovercraft ( we go a cheap deal on both train & hovercraft) - the buses are really good - they run late & go all over the island - including open top buses which the kids would loveproud gran to 4 lovely boys and one little girl0

We went Hoburne in Torbay last year it was fantastic. We always travel by train. We are a Family of five. 3 kids 7,4 and 1 year old. Only took under 5 hours from Stoke. Then 5 minute taxi from Paignton to Hoburne.0
