I've worked for sky for 2 years and I have never seen anyone being charged anything if they disconnect their box if they don't have multiroom. Sky will charge a £25 "manual enablement" fee if you don't have an active phone line on installation, which exempts you from having the box connected at all(only if you don't have multiroom)

if you are charged anything extra for disconnecting your phone line from your single box, then I will pay those charges for you myself. That's how positive I am that you won't be penalised. :)

I had service calls when I was at Sky for single boxes because the callback had failed & the customers had threatening letters, mind you this was when the HD first came out.
Most tho for Multi room,an easy check for the customer was to try & look up cinema listings using the interactive. If it failed on using my test line, the box modem was more than likely faulty.

Well certainly now, customers are told they must Have a Working telephone line when they first order sky, if they don't they must pay the £25 manual enablement fee. This also applies when upgrading the box to HD, but as I say - CLI charges are never applied to a customers account if they only have a single box. Maybe sky realised that they were being a bit OTT or something, I'm gonna ask one or two of my colleagues(who have worked for sky longer than me) when they stopped enforcing he rule.
